Tbh considering my ability to do stuff is directly connected to and paralleled by my confidence in my ability to do stuff, I’m genuinely surprised I get anything done ever
This has always been such a strange exchange to me. Why is Hamlet asking Horatio if it’s cold? Dude doesn’t have a thermometer on him; he can’t tell any better what the temperature is than you can. Why is Hamlet asking Horatio the time? He doesn’t have a watch; he doesn’t know the time any better than you do.
For a long time I saw this as an extremely clunky way of setting the scene: Telling the audience the time and the temperature by having the characters tell each other things they would already know. But it occurs to me now that what Shakespeare is actually doing is showing us that Hamlet doesn’t trust his own senses: He feels cold, but he isn’t sure if it’s actually cold. He heard the clock strike, but he doesn’t know what time it is. What it is setting up is the idea of Hamlet’s madness: the idea that he can’t tell what’s real.
THIS. I rarely ever reblog anything, but THIS needs to be reblogged. THIS is the excellent literary analysis I log on to tumblr for.
I have nothing to add on to this, or any extra points to point out like I’d normally do when I reblog something, because this is already perfect as is. What percentage of Hamlet’s madness was faked is such an interesting topic, and for this short interaction to be alluding to his madness- that’s just fantastic.
OP, I haven’t yet done Hamlet in school, and unfortunately I don’t see many posts analyzing if the ghost of Hamlet Sr. was really in Act 3 Scene 4. Please OP, what’s your take on that?
Loving Shakespearean Characters is so annoying because YES I love Horatio NO I don’t know why (what does he even do other than put up with Hamlet’s stupidity?) YES I love Ophelia NO I don’t know why (what does she even do other than NOT put up with Hamlet’s stupidity?) YES I love Laertes NO I don’t know why (he’s cool but he did technically kill Hamlet) Yes it goes without saying I love Hamlet, No I don’t know why
And repeat this process for every single Shakespeare play.
This one time this person tried to ask me out but I thought she was joking so I said something like “nah I’m good” and didn’t realize she was serious until about a year later.
Anyway I’m telling you that story to let you know that you gotta be VERY straightforward with me, like even more straightforward than outright telling me stuff.
Me: *watching Full Metal Alchemist for the first time*
Me: Awww that guy’s kid is so cute! I wonder if he’ll appear in other episodes!
Me: welp I guess I’ll just have to go on the wiki page and find out! There probably won’t be any spoilers- that child doesn’t really seem like an important character.
What it feels like to be the only student doing school on zoom while everyone else is there in person and I can’t talk in class and the teachers are talking about subjects that I know a lot about and they’re having discussions that I want to participate in but I can’t because I’m on zoom:
So I’m trying to prove to my friends that Gryffindor’s the worst house (sorry to all my gryffindor followers- I’m a slytherin, I’m biased) , and you all have top appreciate the title of the word document I’ll be using for writing all the reasons why gryffindor’s the worst:
The fact that you can use emojis on here, but you all willingly choose not to use them often just brings me so much joy. Now I don’t have to decipher what your hieroglyphics mean. Thank you.
reading TCoMC for me is weird becausethere are plenty of dramatic, groundbreaking, heart-wrenching scenes throughout the entirety of the book that really are supposed to stay with the reader for the rest of their journey.
but me I’m like. there’s one specific line in the book that I don’t think anyone actually remembers because it’s not really that important. and I’ve just picked thatone7-words line and now it lives rent free in my head.
and it’s when the Count is talking to Vampa while Franz spies on them in Colosseum and Vampa goes like
“are you sure you can succeed?”
and the Count says, in French,
“Pardieu !”
and I think about that line every day of my life.
OK first off, YES.
Secondly, let’s all appreciate another great line:

I honestly haven’t been able to make up my mind on that. Most of what I’ve read comes down on the side of the ghost being real, giving some hand-waving excuse for why Gertrude can’t see him. And you know, the ghost is clearly real in Act 1, so why wouldn’t he be in Act 3? But, personally, I think it’s really weird that Gertrude can’t see him. I’d love to hear other people’s explanations for this.
(Oh, and thank you for the praise. I’m sure I can’t be the first person to have come up with the idea. What I find interesting about this scene is that it’s before Hamlet has actually seen the ghost. Perhaps he is doubting not his own senses but Horatio’s? But I don’t think so. Horatio is the only person he trusts, and he trusts him completely. I just find it interesting that Hamlet is already doubting his own mind even before seeing the ghost.)
I agree with you- this answer is kinda unsatisfying. Mainly because it goes all into the symbolism of the ghost, and the symbolism of Gertrude not seeing the ghost/Hamlet seeing it. Which I don’t particularly like, because people’s ability to see ghosts shouldn’t depend on if they’re cheating on said ghost or not.
Idk. If I were a ghost and my ex-spouse was cheating on me, I would 100% haunt them. But that’s just me.
I have such a good concept for a tcomc song parody and I wanna write it but I have no motivation and I wanna tell you guys about it but I feel like if I say what it is, someone’s gonna write it before me. So yeah
Hamlet didn’t tell Horatio he’s a prince when they met because he assumed he already knew. Horatio didn’t know and tbh wouldn’t have become friends with him because he’s smart enough to know that becoming friends with a prince = a high probability of getting mixed up in unnecessary drama.
If 1 person tells me to get off of tumblr and do my homework, I will. I just need one person to tell me to focus on homework so I can actually have the motivation to do it

Ok I gotta tell you what it is.
So. A parody of dumb ways to die (we all know that song, right?) EXCEPT it lists the different ways characters die in tcomc and it’s called… wait for it…
Ok hi! Let’s discuss the meaning of life in great details. Also the meaning of death, if we get bored of the meaning of life
Or we can talk about something infinitely more chill- like what’s your favorite type of cupcake?
Ok meaning of life is 42
And I like red velvet cupcakes with chocolate frosting (no cream cheese I hate cream cheese!)
1- yes correct that is accurate
2- oh we almost have the same favorite cupcake! I like red velvet, except ONLY with cream cheese frosting!
(3)- and now we gotta talk about the meaning of death. If life is 42, would death be 24 or -42?
Sorry to barge in, but might I ask is death necessarily the opposite of life, or just the end of it?
If we take this to be true, then life, which let’s say is x = 42, and death = y, then death could either be ~42.1 < y < ♾️, or if you subscribe to the law of conservation that matter can neither be created nor destroyed, then death also is before life, meaning that -♾️ < y < ~41.9 as well as ~42.1 < y < ♾️
Note: sadly i can’t do the equal to and greater than sign on my phone, or the normal infinity sign, so emoji it is :/
Also my favourite type of cupcakes are those tiny carrot cake ones with the lemon icing!
Thank you so much for your math knowledge! Now all three of us can become all-powerful beings with the knowledge of both life and death!
Hamlet AU where they’re playing Among Us, and Hamlet Sr. calls Hamlet to tell him Claudius is the imposter
edette you damned genius
After dialing the wrong number TWICE- first accidentally calling the castle guards, and then calling Horatio. He hung up on them without saying anything because he didn’t want them to know he’s cheating.

Polonius and Gertrude: *doing tasks in electrical*
Hamlet: *vents, mistakes Polonius (cyan) for Claudius (dark blue)* Aw shit time to stab
Gertrude: *calls emergency meeting*
Hamlet somehow frames Ophelia for it, they vote her out, and Laertes is not pleased with that.
He figured out Hamlet is the imposter and asked Claudius to help him convince the others next time. He doesn’t realize Claudius is the other imposter.
Claudius kills Rosencrantz, Laertes thinks Hamlet did it, Hamlet manages to convince everyone it was Guildenstern, who everyone else votes out.
Hey dad, dead dad I need a little help here I’m prob'ly talking to myself here But dead dad, I gotta ask Are you really in the ground? ‘Cause I hear you all around me Are you here, dead dad? Dead dad
Dead dad,
I’m tired of trying to iron out my creases
I’m a bunch of broken pieces It was you who made me whole Every day they’re staring at me Like all, “Hurry up, get happy Move along Forget about your dad”
'Cause mother’s in denial Mother doesn’t wanna feel She wants me to smile And clap like a performing seal Was faking for a while But I might lose my mind for real You won’t believe the mess that we’ve become
You’re my home My destination And I’m your clone Your strange creation You held my hand And life came easy Now jokes don’t land And no one sees me Nothing seems to fit Father is this it? Are you receiving? I want something to believe in or I’ll go mad
They’ll soon ship me to England
or I’ll be here in Denmark
Call when vengeance can be had! Mother’s moving forward Mother didn’t lose a dad
Father won’t you send a sign? I’m running out of hope and time My two friends spied, My girlfriend died Hope’s nowhere to be had
No more playing Uncle’s game I’ll go insane if things don’t change Whatever it takes ‘til vengeance can be claimed Dead dad!
