frosted-firefly:

Shoutout to @edettethegreat who likes all my posts and makes me feel validated

All your posts are really good and everyone else should like them too

1- do you think Edmund from King Lear would be any good at swordfighting/fencing?

...

2- if so (and I know you'll say he is) (because its his type) then how did he lose against Edgar in the final scene?

1- yes

2- Ok so.

Let’s not forget.

That he literally stabbed himself, probably in the arm, a few scenes ago.

He’s literally fighting Edgar with a stabbed arm.

I’d assume stab wounds don’t heal that quickly?

It’s kinda karma, in a way. He stabbed himself to frame Edgar, and then he gets stabbed by Edgar because he stabbed himself. At least that’s how I personally see it.

my spanish teacher just sent me an email that only had a smiley emoji in it

overly specific memes about the book Homecoming

another overly specific meme

how my english teacher ruined skakespeare and destroyed all happiness from the world: part 1

Ok this is basically just a summary of everything that she got wrong and every time she was annoying.

1-She said that Shakespeare wrote “Henry the 3rd…. and maybe Henry the 2nd too”

2-(this is a really small complaint but) she said “a lot of really good and nice people die in the last act of King Lear”. And. I mean. Would you call anyone other than Cordelia “good” and “nice”? Oh yeah, Edmund, Regan, Goneril, Gloucester, and Lear are all such good and nice people.

3- She said that they called Horatio to check if the ghost is real because Horatio’s an expert on ghosts

4- She forgot that Ophelia exists

5- Said that “O’er” is pronounced the exact same way as “or”

6- She doesn’t know the difference between Brutus and Cassius

7- Is aware that Hamlet is 30. Thinks that his mother is 40.

8- Doesn’t know what year Hamlet (the play that she’s supposed to be teaching us) takes place in.

9- Explained what dew is, with the full assumption that a class of 17-18 yr old people have no idea what it is.

10- Said that Macbeth was strong and Lady Macbeth was weak- her only evidence being that Lady Macbeth died first  (@sargent-major-jane I think you’d agree with me on this; ie that if a teacher would say this, you’d also be kinda annoyed) (because like) (you too appreciate Lady Macbeth and understand what a great character she is)

11- She called Iambic pentameter “iambic penariter”

12- She keeps censuring random parts because they’re “inappropriate”

That’s all I have so far for the first two weeks of trying to learn Hamlet. More complaints to come.

I GUESS WE’RE DOING THIS

1- Henry 4, 5, 6, and 8, Richard 2 and 3. Ma’am. are you serious. literally any other number.

2- fuck Lear he’s a dick. Cordelia, you’re the only bitch here i ever respected jk edmund ily

3- Horatio is a college student and disaster gay. all he know is try his best, hold hamlet’s one braincell, and be the best boi.

4- i’m sorry, how the literal, actual fuck-

5- oher

6- that- that doesn’t- they- nO (Cassius is bitch boy, Brutus simps for democracy. know the difference.)

7- they weren’t that into child brides

8- HOW IS SHE A TEACHER

9- dew? that verb that means to actively accomplish something?

10- literally, how. no. i need to know. no one disrespects my lady like this. also is she implying that if someone dies before you they are automatically weaker than you? so like. ig the weakest character in Macbeth is Duncan. ig the weakest character in Hamlet is the dead king. ig the weakest character in Julius Caesar is Julius Caesar. the weakest character in R&J is Mercutio. the weakest character in Henry VI part 1 is Henry V, the legendary king who was the hero of the last play, simply because he is the first to die in this one? are you really gonna look me in the eye and tell me there is literally one single dude in the entirety of Henry VI part 1 stronger than Joan of Arc? but oh well she died so anyone who survived is stronger than her ig. no. literally no.

11- the the fuck

12- news flash lady: ALL OF IT IS INAPPROPRIATE

anyway fuck edette’s teacher.

King Lear, but it’s an Among Us AU where Edmund accuses everyone of being the imposter until Edgar and Albany figure out Edmund’s actually the imposter and vote him out

sargent-major-jane:

edmund murders gloucester in front of edgar and then vents away and blames him instead

Edmund plays as white because white represents innocents and stuff, and he thinks people will subconsciously not suspect him if he does

Most of the other players just play as whatever color the game assigns them because they’re not overly invested in it

Cornwall plays as red because he likes the color though.

The dumbest idea I ever had- King Lear except the characters have the same magic powers as the Hargreeves’s

Ok so the question was who gets who’s power, and why.

The only characters that are getting powers in the first place are the main ones from the younger generation: ie Goneril, Regan, Cordelia, Albany, Cornwall, Edmund, and Edgar

Now let me tell you who gets what power.

#1- Luther’s power; ie super strength, goes to Cordelia. You’re probably thinking that that’s the worst choice I can possibly make. BUT NO. Imagine it, for like a minute. (I’ll probably come back and explain all of them more deeply, but I don’t really have the patience for it now)

#2-Diego’s power; ie I don’t even know, throwing knives really well?? Goes to Regan. Why? Welp in the one murder she commits her weapons of choice is sword/dagger, so I already have the mental image of her with knives. And honestly I think it would be really cool if she did some knife throwing.

#3-Allison’s power; ie whatever it’s called- some form of mind control I guess? Goes to (and this one should be obvious) Edmund. Because. Come on. Do I really have to explain this? Edmunds goes to Gloucester and is like “hey. I heard a rumor that Edgar wants to kill you”. I mean, that much is actually canon. And Gloucester believing him is also canon. Tbh for all we know, he could have had Allison’s ability the whole time. It wouldn’t have changed the story at all.

#4-Klaus’s power; ie taking to ghosts, goes to Edgar. For 2 reasons. First- when he’s pretending to be crazy he could just spend the whole time talking to ghosts to make the act more realistic. And 2- ghost of Servant 1 comes to warn him about what happened to Gloucester.

#5-Five’s power; ie time travel and teleporting, was SO difficult to find someone for, but I decided it should go to Goneril. Hear me out. It can’t go to anyone who died and didn’t want to die, so that rules out everyone except for Edgar, Albany, and Goneril. Because if it would go to one of them, they just would prevent their own death. Now Edgar and Albany can’t have the time power either, because they’re both at the morally decent end of the spectrum, and would use it to fix everything that happened in the play. Goneril, however, wouldn’t use it to fix anything, and wouldn’t use it to save herself, since she committed suicide. So therefore she has to be the one to have it.

#6- Ben’s power; ie I don’t know, having tentacles, goes to Albany. For the one and only reason of Ben making it clear that he doesn’t like using his power/it’s not comfortable to use, and me believing that if Albany had a power, he wouldn’t use it for whatever reason. (I personally think he’s the most boring character in King Lear)

#7-Vanya’s power, ie sound manipulation or something, goes to Cornwall. Hear me out. I feel like whatever power Cornwall would have, it would be something that can be used in a subtle way. So that rules out a lot of the powers. Vanya’s power could potentially be used in a very subtle way. I feel like the suits him in a way. (I think I’ll come back and explain this one more also)

Anyway that’s it that’s all I have to say. Please enjoy this very cursed take

you peer pressure me closer to reading king lear every day

Good you should read it

Let me tell you all about it (or more specifically, all about Act 1 Scene 1) to motivate you:

So there’s this king, right? His name is Lear. He’s kinda crazy. He comes up with the brilliant idea of dividing up his kingdom among his three daughters.

Now you’re probably wondering, how will he choose which daughter gets which part? Well, his ego is hungry, so he decides to have a “who can praise me the most” contest to determine who gets what.

His two oldest daughters are like “yeah. We totally love you. Also we’re not sus at all.” And to that Lear said “wow! You must really love me! You’re also not sus at all!”

But his youngest daughter was like “dad. Does this really seem like the greatest way to decide the fate of your empire?” And to that Lear said “EXCUSE ME. Did you just say that you don’t love me?!? That’s it, you’re banished from here!”

So she’s banished. The king of France marries her literally 2 seconds after this happens though, so she’s ok.

Lear also banishes this other guy who was like “heyyyy maybe banishing your youngest daughter wasn’t the greatest idea?”

Meanwhile, you also have the Earl of Gloucester walking around with his son Edmund (who you keep seeing me post about because I love him) (actually pretty much everyone other than Gloucester loves him tbh). And Gloucester thinks that the greatest way to introduce Edmund to people is by going “heyyy you have you seen my bastard child Edmund?! He’s a bastard! Yup, he was born very much out of wedlock. Oops. But his mom was hot though! So it was worth it!!” (I’m not even kidding he literally says this) (*give me a sec and I’ll post a picture of the actual script of him saying it)

ANYWAY. The scene ends with Lear’s oldest two daughters being like “lol we actually don’t love dad. He actually kinda crazy. Who woulda thought. Anyway, we’re the antagonists now. We’ve decided to take up that role” (meanwhile Edmund’s about 2 seconds away from soliloquizing about how he too decided to take up that role).

So that’s that. That’s Act 1 Scene 1 of King Lear.

Please go read it it’s fantastic

*(Ok here’s the start of act one scene 1)

Softly under breath: what the fuc how is this only scene one so much happened

Thank you🥺🥺 i am being crushed hhhh

So is it a race to be the antagonist?

They all manage to be antagonists at the same time, which is why everything goes horribly for everyone so quickly. They nearly singlehandedly take over England (and maybe France too? Idk how politics work).

And small spoiler warning:

Lear’s two oldest daughters take one look at Edmund and decided that he’s hot and they want to marry him (note: they’re both married to other people at the moment)

So they somewhat assist him in his whole revenge plot and help him ruin people’s lives

Hamlet: for my brilliant plan, I’m going to pretend I’ve gone mad.
Edgar: Me too!
Hamlet: cool.
Edgar: *goes outside*
Edgar: *covers himself in dirt*
Hamlet: what...
Edgar: *starts yelling about poor tom*
Hamlet: what are you doing...?
Edgar: *screeches*
Hamlet:

coolness level of getting rid of your brother to take his political title

Claudius: 2/10. Very Uncool. I do not support this action.

Edmund: 11/10. Very Cool. I may support this a little bit.

Hamlet: Two months ago, I lost my father here.
Hamlet Senior: AVENGE ME!!!!
Hamlet: ...
Hamlet: Sometimes I can still hear his voice

I feel slightly uncultured for not having read any of these Stories you keep posting about, so I've decided I will read them. Where should I start?

Oh wow you’re the second person this week to allow me to drag them into the Shakespeare fandom

Ok so. Where should you start in the Shakespeare fandom? That’s such a good question. Well, all of his plays are fantastic (I mean. I’ve only read like 10 of them. But whatever).

So I’ve been posting about Hamlet and King Lear a lot because those are the ones we’re reading in school this year. But assuming you haven’t read any at all yet, (mainly because this ask implies you haven’t read Hamlet, which is read in nearly every english speaking high school, so I’d assume either 1- English isn’t your first language, or 2- you’re not in high school yet. Either way, I don’t think I’d recommend starting with either Hamlet or King Lear, since they’re both normally only taught after you’ve read a bunch of others first)

Anyway. The plays that I’ve heard of people starting as their first Shakespeare play would be

1- The Tempest

This play is about an ex-duke and his daughter. The ex-duke can do magic. They live on an island because of reasons that are explained pretty much right away. The ex-duke has this whole not-so-evil plan involving his daughter getting happily married to the guy she likes. Also there are these two guys who just won’t stop trying to kill the king.

2-Julius Caesar

This one’s about Julius Caesar. His friends get together and decide to murder him for stupid reasons. Then his other friend is like “oh wow. You just killed him. Now I’m gonna rile up the people and make sure they kill you guys.” So yeah, that happens.

3- Romeo and Juliet

Two teenagers fall in love with each other and impulsively get married. Their families hate each other and don’t know that their kids married each other. Six people die because none of the characters has even a shred of common sense.

All three of these plays are good, and I don’t know which one you’ll enjoy more. You can actually read all of them online for free, so yeah, enjoy Shakespeare!

(I can post more summaries of other plays if anyone wants)

we’re reading about Icarus in school, so...

what is your stance on Antonio from Tempest and Richard iii

Antonio: 4/10. Kinda Uncool, but at least he’s funny

Richard 3: 3/10. I know nothing about him, but since he’s Richard #3, his score is 3.

I’m reading all about Icarus for AP Lit, and Minos’s plan for finding Daedalus post his escape is so funny.

His entire plan is “Well. Daedalus is smart. So if I make up a riddle and tell it to the whole nation, whichever town solves it first is the town Daedalus is hiding in”

Like. No. Minos. Did you forget that if the riddle was easy enough for you yourself to make up, it might not be the best one to use?

BUT THE PLAN WORKS ANYWAY.

So yeah. In conclusion, Minos’s plan is dumb but it’s hilarious and works and I love it

Daedalus casually tries to kills a child because he’s jealous that the child is smart.

Luckily the child was magically turned into a bird, so everything’s ok

Opinion on the parallels between Goneril and Reegan, and Edgar and Edmund? (From King Lear)

Also Much Ado About Nothing? Idk I just really like it :)

As much as I love finding parallels between characters, for some reason my brain is asleep now and can’t think. So I’m just gonna talk about them instead.

So. The whole play is about how favoritism is bad, especially if they favoritism is done by a parent choosing a favorite child/children. But the two different versions of favoritism you see in the play are very different

Lear’s favoritism is unpredictable. It’s the type that can change from second to second. He has no permanent favorite- that’s my brand new theory, at least. That when he says at the very beginning of the play that Cordelia was his favorite, that was also just on impulse- because he changes his mind about things like that so often. Goneril and Regan hated that he would keep changing his mind on little to no basis. They wanted some consistency.

Edmund is the exact opposite. Gloucester is very consistent. He likes Edgar, and nothing (or so he thought) could change that. No matter what Edmund would do- no matter how smart or talented he would prove himself to be, Gloucester would always like Edgar better. Edmund would have settled for just being liked a decent amount- or at least for himself and Edgar to be liked relative to their actions, and not relative to who was born first and legitimately.

ANYWAY. I’m supposed to be comparing the siblings (just. All the sibling). So let’s get to it! Goneril and Regan are pretty similar, and honestly the first time I read King Lear I didn’t know how to tell them apart. But after much thought, I came to the conclusion that literally the only important difference between them is that Goneril doesn’t get along with her husband, while Regan and Cornwall are a very fantastic couple. So yeah, that’s that.

Now onto talking about my favorite characters again. ie the Gloucester family.

(Lol it’s a whole play about how favoritism is wrong, and here I am, with all my favoritism)

I know I always talk about Edmund, so let me talk about Edgar. I’ve been thinking about him lately and I’ve come to the conclusion that the only way to make him likable is if he’s really, really stupid. Because look. I don’t have sibling. But if I did and my father would just constantly treat my sibling really unfairly, I’d be like “Hey. Stop.”. So Edgar has to be, like, REALLY stupid to just Not Get what’s up. Like he sees how Gloucester treats Edmund and he just Doesn’t Process. Or he sees and it’s just stored in the back of his mind.

And he doesn’t put the pieces together until the end, after he’s already killed Edmund. And he’s like “Oh.” And recognizes that Edmund had every right to be angry at them.

(Ok so I have a midterm to take now, so I’ll come back to this later and continue with my thought on the topic)

OK SO I’m done with my midterm, let me continue talking about the Gloucester family.

I forgot where I was going with the original post, so I’m just gonna say anything I didn’t outright mention there.

SO. (And this is getting dangerously close to headcanon territory) (jk it definitely is a headcanon at this point) I think Edgar would have really respected Edmund, to an extent. He may not have been bright enough to realize Edmund was basically a big pile of pent up rage and frustration, but he did at least recognize pre-play how smart and talented Edmund was.

And (if only I had a copy of King Lear with me right now) I find it very interesting that Edgar doesn’t ever really say (by the end) “how dare you do this to me and my father. Now I stabbed you as revenge”. I don’t think he really feels like stabbing Edmund was just revenge- I think he sees Edmund, in that moment, as someone who’s out of control and needs to be stopped, rather than just his brother who wronged him.

OK SO I went to check my copy of Lear, and I hate/love/hate again how everyone ignores Edmund after he gets stabbed. I somehow forgot about that. An officer comes and is like “yeah so Edmund’s dead now”, and Albany’s like “yeah so we don’t really care”. So it really does come full circle, I guess. It starts out with people not caring about Edmund, and it ends with people not caring about Edmund.

That’s just sad. But a somewhat satisfying way to write a story.

As for Much Ado About Nothing- I never read it, sorry. But I will one day

another sudden realization about King Lear

Albany’s accusation against Edmund at the end is fully based around how Goneril wrote a letter to Edmund asking him to murder Albany and marry her.

Which is pretty similar to how, you know… Edmund wrote that letter from Edgar to him asking him to murder Gloucester, which is what started this whole mess.

There’s a letter addressed to Edmund asking him to help the sender murder someone. Will it

A) lead to him becoming the Earl of Gloucester

B) lead to him getting stabbed to death

Or C) Who Knows.

King Lear: a play where everyone dies, including Edmund

King Lear if Goneril would have never written that letter: a play where most of the relatively good people die, but Goneril and Edmund live happily ever after and rule England together

(Here’s a really bad take: I don’t think Edmund and Goneril would be that bad at ruling a country. Their main grievances are against their families, but neither of them seems to go out of their way to hurt other people. Edmund more than Goneril tbh. But I think that once given the power and respect they want so badly, they might be able to actually pull off running a kingdom well.)

The fact that Edmund leaves with Gloucester when Gloucester goes out to get France and Burgundy and just.. never comes back always kinda bothered me.

Like where did he go? Did he go to start evil plotting? Did he use this time to write The Letter ™? Did he leave because he didn’t want to stick around and put up with Gloucester?

Who knows

King Lear, but it’s an Among Us AU where Edmund accuses everyone of being the imposter until Edgar and Albany figure out Edmund’s actually the imposter and vote him out

edmund murders gloucester in front of edgar and then vents away and blames him instead

@suits-of-woe one day a bunch of us (and by “us” I mean the Shakespeare accounts that play among us/ contribute to the among us AUs) have to reenact Shakespeare plays in Among Us

Like we all play as whatever characters,.. and just.. recreate the plot of Shakespeare plays

(It may take some time for the right characters to be the imposters though… but idk I think it’ll be worth it)

(Oh I should probably tag @sargent-major-jane too- hi if you wanna be part of this too just letting you know it’s a thing now) (it’s a thing because I and I alone say it’s a thing- no one else agreed to it at the time I’m making this post)

is my house haunted- part 2 I guess, but only because my house is pretty haunted

I keep trying to take pictures in the basement, and every time I try to I get this:

The camera works perfectly fine- this only happens in the basement.

In conclusion- the basement and my bedroom are both kinda haunted.

Shakespeare Among Us AUs

MACBETH AMONG US AU

Macbeth and the rest of the cast are trying to play on a private server. So far, only Macbeth and Banquo joined. A hacker by the username 3witches joins. 3witches tells them that she, being a hacker, can control their among us characters and the game, and tells Macbeth that he’ll be imposter, and the other imposter will kill him.

3witches also changed the programming of the game so that the two imposters can’t see who the other imposter is. Macduff is the other imposter.

OTHELLO AMONG US AU

The two imposters are Roderigo and Othello.

Iago is a crewmate who causes chaos for fun.

JULIUS CAESAR AMONG US AU

Brutus and Cassius are the imposters.

Mark Antony decides to watch Cassius closely because Caesar said he was sus. He witnesses Cassius kill Caesar, and sees that Brutus is right there witnessing it too without reporting it. He figures out that they’re imposters, reports the body, gets Cassius voted out, calls an emergency meeting, and gets Brutus voted out.

The whole game lasts less than a minute.

TITUS ANDRONICUS AMONG US AU

By some glitch in the game, everyone’s an imposter. The story plays out exactly as it is.

ROMEO AND JULIET AMONG US AU

Tybalt and Juliet are the imposters.

Juliet doesn’t do imposter things, she just hangs out with Romeo/ guards him from Tybalt. Tybalt tries to kill Romeo but kills Mercutio instead. Romeo reports the body and gets Tybalt voted out.

Later on people start suspecting Juliet of being the other imposter, so Romeo frames himself for it and gets voted out. Juliet immediately calls an emergency meeting and confesses to being the imposter. She gets voted out too.

Does Elios exist???

Please tell me

Thank you to everyone who answered me last week

I am very unhappy with the answer

And the fact that it was now confirmed to be true

Me: has midterms

Also Me: instead of studying tries to figure out what on earth the pre-play dynamic was between Edmund and Edgar

Very valid, I approve

(Now I feel stupid for leaving out my little AU)

In my mind Edgar tries his best to be a good brother, but just *constantly* messes up because he’s kinda dumb when it comes to dealing with Edmund.

So like, if someone were to ask him pre-play, pre-the nine years Edmund spent away “hey how’s your brother doing? Does he have any pent up rage that he’s bottling up inside him that may one day cause him to nearly take over England and maybe France too (idk how politics work)?” Edgar would say “nahhh he definitely loves it here and he loves us and we all love him!”

And yet he’d still give Edmund the same introduction Gloucester gives him (ie “hi yes this is my bastard brother- he’s such a bastard- he’s like, the biggest bastard ever!”) But. He doesn’t do it to offend Edmund, he does it because he hears Gloucester doing it and Edmund never complains- because Edmund isn’t the type to complain, he’s the type to bottle up his frustration until he can’t bottle it up anymore. And when *that* happens he starts his epic quest to (nearly) conquer the world.

I’d like to think that’s why Edgar was so quick to trust Edmund- not just because Edgar’s kinda naive, but because he never saw any sign of Edmund’s frustration and anger. Edmund never spoke a word of it- he’d always go along with whatever was happening in a very diplomatic way, ie his primary goal was to stay on good terms and keep the peace. Because he knew he’d only have one shot at taking them down (and part of me would like to say he may have had hope, when he was younger at least, that things would get better).

As for where Edmund was for those nine years- he was traveling the world. Just for fun, just to get away from his family. (Headcanon that he knows many languages and can pass as a native to most European countries easily. This headcanon mainly stems from how he uses words as his weapons, so it make sense for him to (metaphorically) collect words to stock his  word arsenal.)

He only returned because Gloucester called him back- I don’t know for what purpose, but that’s the reason I’ve chosen for this headcanon. Because I’d like to blame Gloucester as much as possible (he’s kinda a pretty bad parent? To both of his children?). And I’d like to think that if Gloucester would have just left Edmund alone and let him do what he wanted, he could have avoided so many tragedies. But he didn’t.

still working on Lear staging directions, but this one direction alone is good enough to be its own post

King Lear, but it’s an Among Us AU where Edmund accuses everyone of being the imposter until Edgar and Albany figure out Edmund’s actually the imposter and vote him out

edmund murders gloucester in front of edgar and then vents away and blames him instead

(I genuinely thought I reblogged this already)

You are correct and I love this

(Alternatively- a while back I elaborated on Instagram with “Edmund’s like “Gloucester’s sus, guys. I heard he’s siding with Lear, and Lear’s been faking tasks”)

(But tbh yours is VERY valid and I love it)

(SIDEPOINT TO EVERYONE SEEING THIS POST WHO DIDN’T SEE EVERYTHING ELSE I POSTED TODAY: I’m writing this insanely long thing of how I’d stage King Lear to make Edmund 100% more sympathetic, and make Gloucester 100% less sympathetic. It’s very long and I’ve already spent over two hours on it. It should be finished either some time tonight or tomorrow. Brace yourselves. )

Hi so I’m working on this King Lear staging ideas post that I’ll be posting soon, and I mention your theory of Cornwall’s relationship with Edmund (I really liked it and thought it was a great idea). Anyway can you tell me more about them? I’m really curious now- in your theory where you mention that Cornwall could have manipulated Edmund like Edmund manipulated everyone else. Which I think is great, but now I gotta know- what would be Cornwall’s purpose in doing so? What would he get out of it?

suits-of-woe:

Ooh thank you for asking! I think their dynamic is so underrated so I love that you’re thinking about posting about it!

The straightforward answer is probably that Cornwall just recognizes how smart and capable Edmund is (at a stage of the play when a lot of other characters haven’t) and he’s the kind of person who would rather have him on his side than working against him. He manipulates Edmund in that he understands how to give Edmund a taste of what he wants (affection) at the right times in order to keep him loyal, but I don’t think he necessarily has a big master plan for him. It’s more that he’s figured out how Edmund operates, and since Edmund is really good at figuring out how other people operate using that to his advantage, Cornwall could possibly use him as a means of becoming sort of a puppet master.

It’s hard to figure out what Cornwall might have done/was planning to do if he hadn’t died, but I’ll throw out some speculation anyway. He likely would have gotten rid of Gloucester and possibly tracked down Edgar too then, I’m guessing, turned his attention toward Albany. I can 100% see him trying to get Albany killed off and then arranging a marriage between Edmund and Goneril, knowing Edmund is sort of under his thumb, so he effectively has absolute authority and goes unquestioned. (How long would Edmund defer to Cornwall if he also had a wife who he felt loved by? That could be another story)

The fucked up answer is that Cornwall also seems to have some uh…thing, I suppose, for abusing the power he has over people, so it’s possible he also just, like, gets a kick out of this.

Edit: just got your other ask, I’ll definitely think about some Edmund and Cornwall hcs and post those soon

Very cool- I genuinely love this theory, it makes so much sense.

Now I really wish Cornwall didn’t have to die so I could see where he was going with his epic “manipulate Edmund” plan

oof another bad take

This blog has been touched by the Kansas Fire Witch

Oh, is that why my blog is now in Kansas and on fire?

another thing from my How To Stage King Lear that should be its own post

a tragedy in two parts  (ie an excerpt from “King Lear with the staging that would cater to me specifically”)

IT’S THE MOMENT NONE OF YOU HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR..

SMALL PREQUEL TO “KING LEAR BUT STAGED SO THAT EDMUND IS 100% MORE SYMPATHETIC AND GLOUCESTER’S 100% MORE OF A JERK”

So. Shakespeare’s great. The best thing about Shakespeare is the lack of stage directions. That way, you can portray the characters in whatever way you want.

Every interpretation of a character is equally canon, so long as you don’t change the script at all.

If you can change the way a whole character is portrayed just by using staging, then it’s not even a headcanon. Your interpretation is 100% canon.

So therefore, according to these rules, Edmund is, in fact, a sympathetic character.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

And Without Further Ado, KING LEAR BUT STAGED SO THAT EDMUND’S MORE SYMPATHETIC
