coriolanusbutch:

really want to lock Iago from Othello, Edmund from King Lear and Aaron from Titus Andronicus in a room and see what they do to each other

Edmund and Aaron (characters with legitimate reasons for being angry at The System™) would think Iago’s just insane and racist and would find his version of Plotting and Scheming to be very uncool. So they’d kill him.

Then they’d bond over their shared grievances <3

what do I have to do to convince the Edmund side of tumblr to make some more Edmund content

idk idk just. The speed at which Gloucester was ready to believe Edgar was plotting to kill him. The way every argument Edmund makes against it is so reasonable and reassuring but no matter what he says Gloucester still obstinately insists that Edgar must be planning his death.

Edmund makes a hundred reasonable arguments in Edgar’s defense but he knows they’ll all be ignored.

and then the speed at which Edgar believes that Gloucester is furious with him and wants him dead. So furious and so set on killing him that any attempt to approach him personally and sort things out might cost him his own life.

anyway Albany’s just jumping at the opportunity to call Edmund a slur

to be fair Edmund is very much sleeping with his wife. but to be unfair if Albany wasn’t so uncool maybe his wife wouldn’t be so against sleeping with him

#honestly. says a lot about Gloucester ngl#Why are your sons so convinced that you’re unreasonable and easily angered and ready to believe the worst in people#Why are your sons so scared of you#Why are they so positive that if you even get the slightest idea that someone might be a threat to you. You’d kill them.

king lear is so wild because like. what if you treated your kid(s) like absolute shit. like all the time. constantly. what if you publicly shamed them. what if you expected them to bow before you and treat you like a god and say yes sir you’re so amazing and i’ll do whatever you want. what if you refused to respect them at all.

would you really expect them to respect you? to trust you? to not resent you? to not treat you like shit one day as payback???

like the play opens with edmund standing there in almost complete silence while his father talks shit about him IN FRONT OF HIM for absolutely NO reason. edmund hasn’t done anything even slightly evil yet!!! all he did wrong was be born out of wedlock!!! and then edmund asks “why do i get treated like shit because of circumstances of my birth that i have no control over when i am just as good as my brother in literally every other way? why is it impossible for me to earn respect no matter what i do?” and then gloucester and the play try so so hard to convince you that edmund is just evil by nature because he’s a bastard and that poor poor noble gloucester did not deserve this at all :((((

I am So Serious, if you love Edmund go listen to A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder.

literally just king lear from his perspective.

guy takes over earldom by killing everyone ahead of him and also has two ladies romantically pursuing him, both of whom he’s leading on

( @mybanditskeletoncowboy ) You’re so right so valid

And I had never even considered Sibella to be an Edmund song until now,, but and I just listened to it again and—

“You are vain and you are heartless and yet/ I can feel in you a shade of sadness that’s barely detectable”

:(

yeah ok. Certified Edmund Song.

I nearly screamed with glee seeing someone here on tumblr mention Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder!! (insert it’s been 84 years meme here) You have exquisite taste!!

P.S. got a favorite (lol) D’Ysquith? Or song(s)?

This ask is perfectly timed, I am actively listening to the soundtrack right now

does Monty count as a d’ysquith? Does he only half-count? I feel like it’s obnoxious it choose the protagonist but he’s just so fun. I love how he looks at the audience whenever he realizes he has an opportunity to murder someone.

I’ve watched the bootleg two or three times already and at the point where Phoebe gives him the flower and is like “this is super toxic,, it will definitely kill you if you eat it ☺️☺️” .. and Monty just slowly turns towards the audience like 😮😲— I just love him so much

As for my favorite song/s— idk I’ve only discovered this musical relatively recently so I’m still in my “I love the whole thing” phase. Once I actually know the songs better I’ll be able to sort out the ones I like from the ones I’m not really into

anyway. Glad to see I’m providing much needed content to a starving tumblr ecosystem <3

invading your kid’s privacy by going through their things? You mean the thing that got Gloucester killed?

Key to writing villains (and important to keep in mind when you’re trying to write actually good heroes) is that you can be a completely twisted, immoral, cruel and sadistic piece of of shit and still be sentimental and/or romantic.

And villains who are sentimental and romantic will often do things motivated by sentimentality or romantic notions while believing that they’re doing them out of goodness.

king lear AU where parents respect their children’s boundaries

Gloucester: hey Edmund what’s that letter you’ve got there?

Edmund: oh it’s nothing dw about it

Gloucester: ok son 👍 I respect your privacy 👍

Edmund: …😒😒

—————

Goneril: hey dad can you send away your knights? They’re wrecking my house

Lear: you want me to get rid of my knights??

Goneril: yes please

Lear: well then of course 👍 I’m sorry they wrecked your house :(

Edmund, act 1 scene 2

Hey, I'm looking for a specific post and I scrolled so far back without finding it. I'm starting to worry I'm looking at the wrong blog 🥲 so I have to ask, did you make a post that was like "how to stage king Lear so Edmund is 100% more sympathetic"? (great post if you did, it lives rent free in my head)

YES that’s my post!!— and it’s definitely the one piece of tumblr content that I spent the longest working on!!

I think I wrote it around 4 years ago, so by now I find half of it cringe (as anyone would find things they made when they were younger to be)—but the sword symbolism part is something I stand by so strongly.

I really want the different characters to have distinctly different swords that are noticeably passed from person to person as Plot happens—

in chapter 5 of Latin and we still can’t say “hello how are you”

but we can say “madness called you to the city; you called us to death!

in chapter 8 of Latin we still can’t count to ten.

but we can say “Citizens, you don’t need to fear, for a great leader cares for you all

in chapter 18 of Latin we still can’t say “hello how are you”

but we can say “The girl on the road who was leading us, whom you saw, about whom you were thinking, to whom you were yielding, whose name you do not know, is Annaea.”

2well2water:

i fucking hate it when a movie or a tv show does some shit where a character has a shitty dad and another character tells them to forgive him because. “it’s your dad”. that means nothing. more people should be killing their fathers.

about that one king lear take that I just can’t stop thinking about

edettethegreat:

King Lear’s conflict starts and ends with a letter addressed to Edmund asking him to murder someone

17 year old me was so right about so many things

bewbin:

I was bleeding out in the snow and it was all cool and stuff until like a bunch of teenager showed up and then It got really cringe so I put all the blood back and went to go bleed out somewhere else but all the good bleed out places were taken so I decided just to die like a natural peaceful death like look overlooking the Cliffside but lo and behold somebody’s already fucking dying there against a tree and it looks way sicker than what I had planned I guess I’ll just fucking live

anyway I just finished season 2 of Oshi no Ko and. Absolutely fantastic 10/10 no notes.

y’all have gotta reevaluate why you find femininity inherently degrading and masculinity inherently empowering because. that’s not the progressive take you think it is

oh no this post has been found by the terfs

you’re so right guys I am talking about trans girls. Except I’m saying that if someone headcanons a character to be a trans girl (or even a cis man who’s more feminine than the canon version) y’all have gotta chill because they’re not insulting that character.

anyway I’m so sorry y’all find femininity to be inherently degrading :(

y’all seem like cis girls, so as a fellow cis girl lemme tell you. You can be feminine to whatever degree you want to, or not at all. You can choose how to present yourself. And if you’re really unhappy with your gender as a whole. Well I have some fascinating news for you about modern medicine…
