What actually is the plot of tcomc?

OK THIS IS GONNA BE A LONG POST

So there’s this guy called Edmond Dantes. He’s the protagonist. He’s living a pretty good life, BUT WAIT! These 2.5 guys are jealous of his half-decent life and decide to plot against him and get rid of him! You’re probably wondering how there could be half a guy. The thing is guy #3 is kinda just There. Like he’s not actively plotting or anything- he’s just hanging out with the 2 guys who are. He actually warns them to stop plotting, but he’s 99% drunk at the moment, so they only pretend to stop plotting to get him to shut up.

ANYWAY. One of the 2 plotters realizes that due to circumstances, it might look like Edmond committed treason. So if someone were to send in a formal accusation against him, chances are he’d be arrested. So yeah they do that.

BUT THE THING IS, the prosecutor appointed to interrogate Edmond/investigate the case isn’t an idiot, and pretty much right away he’s like “yeah it’s pretty clear that you’re innocent and someone’s just trying to set you up.” And for a second there, it looks like everything’s gonna be ok for our good friend Edmond. But unfortunately, mr prosecutor man finds out something that gives him a personal motive for getting Edmond as far away from France as possible (oh yeah I forgot to mention this takes place in France). So he sends Edmond to prison. Oh well.

Stuff happened. Edmond finds a way out of prison. Edmond finds buried treasure and changes him name to THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO (hehe that’s the name of the book). Then he goes back to France to start putting the world’s most elaborate revenge scheme into motion.

(Also there’s a canon lesbian couple)
