I feel like I should be able to find a connection between hamlet and the deathnote musical- probably because it slaps and I want to make an animatic but who knows

:

edettethegreat:

Hamlet, as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are tens to their deaths: “Did I hear correctly? Did that really happen? Was it simple done by writing done a name? Killing indirectly- pen and ink and paper- writing is the gun, I only have to aim…”

Hamlet, as he’s dying: “Is this the way it ends now? How could I not see this coming??…”

Hamlet, trying to figure out if the ghost is real: “Empty your mind of any theories, 'til all the facts are in. Start at the end of all your queries to learn where things begin. You analyze by working backwards- effects reveal their cause- for even perfect crimes have perfect flaws….”

Horatio, trying to talk some sense into Hamlet: “There are lines that can’t be crossed- there are things you shouldn’t do- for you pay too high a cost, and you lose a piece of you. You don’t justify a means in the service of an end- smashing laws to smithereens ‘til there aren’t any rules left to break or bend…”

Everyone, at every point in the play: “The truth is hard to sort out among the secrets and the lies. Familiar faces watch you, but with a perfect stranger’s eyes.”

Hamlet, Laertes, and Claudius, right before they’re all about to kill each other: “The line is quickly blurring between what’s right and what is not- I don’t care who gets hurt now, so long as I get one more shot!!”

Laertes, after Hamlet’s all like “’tis I, Hamlet the Dane!!”: “I wonder is this guy for real? I wonder is he who he claims to be? And if he is, then what’s the deal? Why would he make a point of telling me??”

Edette, you are a genious

Some more ideas that aren’t as good as the first ones but I wanna say anyway:

Hamlet, trying to gather evidence on Claudius: “Steady- I must be ever so careful- don’t move until you are ready, he will be careful too..”

Claudius, sometime after The Play, realizing Hamlet probably Knows: “Know it, always so calm and collected- don’t lose your cool or you’ll blow it! Then he will unravel you!!”

Ghost, to Hamlet: “Where is the justice????” (Specifically the last time that line’s sung in the song- the time they sing it very dramatically)

Polonius, a millisecond after he sends Ophelia to go talk to Hamlet, when he’s standing spying on them with Claudius: “looking down from above, I’m intrigued by their love-” (2 seconds later he’s like noooo wait this isn’t what was supposed to happen!!)

Gertrude, explaining to Hamlet why she married Claudius: “… because life is too short and the road is too long to believe you can walk it alone (+ the entire rest of that song tbh. Just. Gertrude singing this whole upbeat pop song about how she’s definitely ready to jump into this brand new relationship/marriage)
