antagonists in detective stories: good evening, fellow people at this dinner party, one of whom I recognize to be the World’s Greatest Detective. I will now kill one of you and attempt to blend in with all the other suspects. the World’s Greatest Detective, who is here, and who I’m aware is here, will surely fall for the red herrings I’ve placed and will arrest the wrong person, leading me to getting away with this scot-free. Yes yes I know he always solves any case he’s involved in, but I trust and believe that I’m a special exception who’s gonna be able to create a crime he can’t see through :)
