im teaching hamlet rn to my 11th graders

and all of your comparisons are making me want to also teach them king lear which i simply. do not have time for.

it’s ok I think hamlet is the more important play for an 11th grade class to obsess over :)

I think the first time I got really into hamlet was around 11th grade

however– for me personally, I read hamlet in 12th grade english lit, and simultaneously read king lear in AP Lit– and somehow still didn’t make all these (seemingly obvious) comparisons until afterwards

[but if you actually want a way to teach both, I’d say the fastest and simplest solution is to read hamlet thoroughly in class, and then watch a production of king lear so you could make comparisons between the two]

The Substance is a better adaptation of Jekyll and Hyde than 99% of the adaptations out there

because such a key component of the book is that he does this to himself on purpose. He 100% wants to be split in two and do his unnamed ‘vices’ while in his Hyde persona.

and of course he regrets it when everything gets out of hand and he can’t stay in the form he wants anymore, but the initial transformation was a complete success and exactly what he was aiming for

anyway no more innocent victim adaptation-Jekyll who didn’t know what he was getting into. More Elisabeth who absolutely knows what she’s getting into and initially is very satisfied with how things are going
