And I think that’s because Light does bad things (ie essentially being a serial killer) but still believes that he’s a good person. Actually, he believes that he’s Morally Superior to everyone around him.
Meanwhile, Edmund, who has an understandable enough motive to do everything he’s doing, and can easily justify himself, essentially says to the audience “Nope I’m irredeemable. Don’t bother trying to justify me. I’m just the worst”.
