also completely separate headcanon re:edmund trial by combat and the line about forgiving edgar if he’s noble–
I do believe that edmund’s kinda overjoyed at the opportunity to actually beat up a noble and get away with it.
the whole play he’s had to work with subterfuge as his primary weapon because there’s no other way for someone of his social status to safely fight the nobility.
but now he’s a noble. and he can, if he so desires, accept this duel and potentially harm a noble with little to no consequence.
so good for him, good for him :)
thinking so many thoughts about a female version of edmund and how much it would change how the audience would perceive her.

every time I see a production of king lear that has edmund being a classic mustache-twirling evil-cackling villain it’s like.
no. you don’t get him. you don’t respect him. give my guy enough respect to not turn him into a cartoon villain. he’s got so much more going on.
