it’s still so weird for me, after all the bad experiences that i’ve had with the canon depictions of my ships and favorite characters, to think about the fact that the jonmartin subtext….isn’t actually subtext.

It’s buildup. It’s just their relationship being slowly and beautifully developed and written until they finally end up together. 

It’s their feelings growing and maturing and deepening and them working through numerous internal and external obstacles until they get to have this wonderful relationship, as they become each other’s person as they stand against the world with only each other for support. 

It’s not unintentional and it’s not unacknowledged. Yes they aren’t a couple till much later in the series but they were always meant to be. It’s so wonderfully new to have that experience. To not be gaslighted by writers when a few too many people pick up on the romantic undertones of the relationship. To just really have that be a fully realized part of the story that eventually gets resolution and satisfying payoff.

It’s sadly an incredibly novel experience.
