@incipientdreamer replied to your post “I often see people depict Elias as the snobby,…”:
They are both snobby little shits. Reason why they are so perfect for each other. Jonah was a rich fuck who decided to meddle in things best left untouched because he believed himself to be the smartest man alive. That is until the Web kicked his ass
I don’t think you understand Jonah as a character very well. Jonah didn’t ‘meddle in things best left untouched because he believed himself to be the smartest man alive’; he meddled in things because he needed to know. He desired knowledge so much, in fact, that he was willing to sacrifice friends in his pursuit of it. There’s a reason he’s aligned with the Eye. One of his defining qualities is also his fear of death; he desired an end to his mortality and he dedicated much of his life to pursuing one. Never is his ego his primary motivation for anything.
Additionally, Jonah is noted to have often worked on his own, to the point that people would implore him to hire more staff to help him, so this is not a man who considers doing his own archiving, paperwork, menial work, etc beneath him. He has no issues being part of the working class and he doesn’t exhibit classism in the same way Peter does.
He’s not a snobby rich fuck. He’s a guy who runs an academic institution that runs on donations.
