my mental image of peter is just. the most generic stock photo businessman imaginable. a billboard looking man. you expect him to start selling you insurance almost before you see him

EXCEPT

he’s always wearing a stupid captain’s hat and never takes it off. the privileges of an audial medium means that you cant prove he ISN’T constantly wearing a stupid hat whenever he shows up.

alternatively, if you wanted a higher ratio of Sea Captain vs Trust Fund Beneficiary, heres a version with a beard:

STILL CANT GET OVER HOW FUNNY PETER LUKAS IS. JUST LIKE. AS A CHARACTER CONCEPT??? EVERY TIME I TRY TO EXPLAIN IT TO SOMEONE I END UP WHEEZING TOO HARD TO CONTINUE???

like oh hey its the lukases! theyre an entire family tied to the eldritch manifestation of the lonely! thats ironic enough to be funny already, but then we meet peter lukas.

and all our past exposure to the lukases leads us to believe that he’s gonna be pretty representative of the forsaken, right? he’s a scion of the lukases, who have all been cold, distant, reserved and ominously silent. surely when we finally hear a lukas on tape, he’s going to have Gravitas, right? he’s going to be menacing? he’s going to be terse and measured with his words, only speaking enough to deliver cryptic portents of doom to our protagonists????

no.

he sounds like your uncle who works in the HR department of a life insurance company!! he sounds like he walked right out of a management training dvd!!! and he doesnt shut up!!!!!

he opens his mouth and its like my podcast player has been possessed by the tormented souls of a thousand door to door salesmen. everything he ever says just perfectly captures the essence of an insufferable bureaucrat of a “people orientated company” with an employee policy made up of statements like “we’re all one big happy family!”. thats REAL fear right there. he’s the fakest bitch ive ever heard. its incredible.

Headcanon: Peter gets Martin his own captain hat after working for him for a while. He only wears it when they go to the Panopticon before throwing it down on the floor, alongside the knife.

I love that the Lukas family worked so hard to make Peter the perfect avatar and they’re so pleased with how he turns out and he’s just this obnoxiously chatty manchild who throws their money into projects that achieve jack shit, is defeated by a newspaper, gets repeatedly manipulated, and dies because he was having a tantrum.

Great job, Lukas family.

i think that either woobifying peter lukas OR pretending that his backstory isn’t, you know, intensely sad miss something about the story-telling.

because the way that peter was raised is tragic. he tries so hard to make it sound like it wasn’t absolutely abhorrent and it didn’t leave him with this gaping hole, but it did.

but unlike evan, who took whatever the intensely hard road was out of the lukas house and into happiness and companionship on the other side, peter took his misery and bottled it and then decided to inflict it on others.

Peter being called ‘Captain’ is laughable because he only got that title through nepotism and all he does is sit in his cabin while autopilot and his first mate do everything for him. ‘I’m the Captain :)’ says Peter while Tadeas looks into the camera like he’s on The Office.
