Reasons why Jon Archivist is truly a character of all time:

Why is falling back into old hyperfixations so embarrassing? Like, hello, yes, the year is 2024 and once again every love song was written about Martin Blackwood and Jonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Institute, London

^^ This song is about Them, btw

Martin

Archivist
Tough. Now - listen to me, Martin. Listen.ALT
Archivist
Martin, please! I can't lose you. Not like this…
Martin
Tough! Okay? Where you go, I go!ALT

*through tears* I like it when they say “tough.” I just think it’s neat.

[ID: two screenshots from the unofficial Magnus Archives transcripts. The first reads,

“Martin
(echoing) His only wish was to die alone.
Archivist
Tough. Now - listen to me, Martin. Listen.”

and the second reads,

“Archivist
Martin, please! I can’t lose you. Not like this…
Martin
Tough! Okay? Where you go, I go!”

End ID.]

good news everyone! ive come to the conclusion that the worst thing a character can be is unlucky

there’s no reason anything terrible should have happened to you. you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, maybe with the wrong people. it could have been anyone in the world, and yet it was you. maybe it’s a blessing that nobody else will ever go through this. maybe it’s a curse that you will instead. maybe that’s a selfish thought. it’s all a game of chance and you spun onto that loaded barrel. you lost the roulette without even realizing - or maybe you did, and you just didn’t care. you’ll never be the same either way

Not to beat a dead horse, but the naming conventions in the Magnus Archives are truly delightful. Jonny really said, “Here’s a cast of fascinating characters! Their names are:

  1. My actual full legal name
  2. The first names of my friends + the last names of famous horror writers
  3. Michael (x4)

They all die horrible deaths :)”
