suzana sees herself as the protector and mira as someone who needs protection. mira is both human and mortal, which marks him as exceedingly fragile in her eyes.
she tries very, very hard to force and coerce mira into her care, which doesn’t work until it does.
6. Who would beg the other not to leave? Who has to leave to protect the other?
interestingly, it’s suzana again and for both.
11. Do either try to hide their emotions if upset? Can the other still tell?
mira does. he’s been too bottled up inside over the decades to do anything else, but he’s very obvious when he’s upset. he’s a cry baby, whether he’s angry or sad.
suzana isn’t very good at hiding her emotions when she’s upset but unfortunately, mira rarely catches on until things come to a head.
too tired for real lines but i had to draw the potential protagonist for the story im hopefully writing soon… her name is priscila and she’s one of the many offspring of gris (a grisling, if you will)

i’ve been thinking about en recently, so here’s her at the “start” (close enough to the start) of her story and then toward the end of her recovery.
how she looks on the right is her natural skin tone and hair color. her affliction (hazzelhoal) literally drains her color away along with being a massive detriment to her health. not depicted is the left version of her stumbling into a wall because she can’t stay on her feet too long without getting dizzy.

BEHOLD, the map! Plus a bonus “this is where everyone is chilling” version.
The rivers are magically unaffected by the desolate winter surrounding them because they are used as the one and only method of travel for everyone.
Humans, however, cannot travel by boat or swim the river for fear of being eaten by river inhabitants. They are forced to walk the river roads beside it.
There is an exception of one location at the bottom of the map where a river merges into the sea. Humans can safely ford this stretch without issue to get to the other side.
Dearest wanders the whole stretch of river it is placed at, but it cannot ford the gap where the river breaks into sea.
While it’s possible to traverse the continent without following the rivers, it is highly dangerous. River roads are patrolled by ferrymen who guide travelers from one place to the next, and many will not accept jobs that depart from the mapped out paths.
