I absolutely would do better because I can think of the consequences of my actions. If I spent months looking at this thing I was trying to on purpose make and then succeeded at making it it seems unreasonable to be afraid of it after that, you met your goal.
Victor not thinking things through is, honesty, his Big Issue. In his reminiscence of the time leading up to his creation of the creature, he never mentioned what he planned to do about his eight-foot-tall son. The need to care for him doesn’t seem to have crossed Victor’s mind, and he hasn’t forewarned his fellow scientists at the university of his plan! I understand the likely concerns about people finding out about his grave robbing, but he really should have told his academic peers about his plans. Maybe he could have gotten the project peer-reviewed.
On the other hand, I don’t blame him for not having “upon his animation, the human you’ve spent two years working on develops a horrible wrongness that none can properly put words to, but which fills all who see it with fear and hate towards it” on his list of potential outcomes! He does, admittedly, contradict himself somewhat when he describes what the Creature appeared like before animation, but I do not think he was lying when he said the Creature changed when animated. I don’t see how, even with him thinking through the consequences of creating life, he could have anticipated that.
