I can’t even tell you how much I love your monster Jon designs. Especially your most recent design because I keep thinking of some scenario where Martin comes face to face with with Jon in an attempt to save him only to see how much of his humanity and devotion to saving to it is lost to his devotion to protecting the Eye.
thank you so much! always glad that people like my art. jon losing his humanity and who he used to be was always one of my favorite parts of the podcast, so scenarios where maintaining his humanity gets harder because he doesn’t even notice when his motivations and wants become aligned with the eye’s are always interesting. it’s very feasible, too; jon was really teetering on an edge and with more time and less people around him to keep him in check, his devotion to saving people could have easily become warped.
i like the comparisons of monsters/avatars to hands or stomachs, organs for the dread powers. in the absence of their own physical form, they’ve built themselves bodies and appendages, shaped places and humans into limbs and mouths. it shows how despite the untouchability and terrible grandiose incomprehensibility they exude, fundamentally, the fears are very simple. clearly tied to and born from the simple instincts of any mortal animal. just a force ruled by hunger. no wonder the hunt is the oldest part of them.
[ERROR] from the new episode as jon. i know the mystery figure probably won’t end up being jon, but it did sound like some sort of archivist so for now i can hope it’s at least partially him
so the different voices might not actually rule out [ERROR] being what’s left of jon, kind of like the watchers were what’s left of the old archivists.
jon’s voice has never been entirely under his own control, seeing as it was embedded in the tapes and the web wove it into a gateway between realities. and now it’s been digitized. it makes a lot of sense that a supernatural encounter database would seize upon the main voices that have been narrating supernatural encounters.
so maybe he made a new voice or new way of speaking by splicing together statements, voices he’s taken from others? specifying that it speaks in layered whispers sounds very intentional.
the voice actor has appeared previously in a statement, one related to a flesh ritual. it was one given to gertrude, not jon, but it was one that jon listened to and fed off of. it could still be related to jon because it was recorded on the tapes and he had it in his internal collection of statements or however being a living archive works. or it could point towards [ERROR] being some sort of amalgamation of past archivists and statements and bits of the eye that got jumbled together?
