i like the comparisons of monsters/avatars to hands or stomachs, organs for the dread powers. in the absence of their own physical form, they’ve built themselves bodies and appendages, shaped places and humans into limbs and mouths. it shows how despite the untouchability and terrible grandiose incomprehensibility they exude, fundamentally, the fears are very simple. clearly tied to and born from the simple instincts of any mortal animal. just a force ruled by hunger. no wonder the hunt is the oldest part of them.
