I saw a post that was like “JonElias toxic abusive dynamics so good” and yeah that’s great and all but I also loovee JonElias healthy fluffy dynamics like two men who finally have someone who can well and truly See them. Elias having gone 200 years without anyone who can see him like Jon can. Jon who was a mentor who sees him for who he is and Encourages it. Like maybe they avoid ending the world all together and spend their time in the library or people watching. Spending hours and hours infodumping on the most random subjects. Playfully delving into each other’s minds until they’re basically one unit. Maybe one day Elias admits to his plans, and Jon already knows doesn’t he. He’s not a fan of it obviously but they’re so intertwined that he understands. But they don’t need to do that anymore do they, after all what’s more powerful than having someone who Knows you?
For both of these I keep thinking of Jon sleeping on a fancy couch in Elias’s office and what that would mean. So warm and soft. I bet Jon would get the best naps in Elias’s office. Rosie comes in and Elias puts a finger to his lips like “shh” and nods to where Jon is sleeping. She makes sure to just take messages should anyone call for the next hour or two. I bet it’d make Elias feel all warm and fuzzy inside. His Jon, sleeping on His couch. Finding comfort in His office. I like to imagine he has a secret extra office lounge area that’s mostly a library. Secret extra library with extremely rare books that Jon goes NUTS after (a la beauty and the beast) tuckered out like a kid from a sugar high he sleeps sated and safe.

Elias who breaks and molds and grooms Jon to be his perfectly overpowered pet. Jon who can do everything Elias can’t. Jon on the collar at the end of Elias’s leash. Playing dreadful mind games with each other like Jon giving Elias a blowy all while vividly imagining strangling the guy to death. And they are both immensely satisfied by this. Absolute rivals. Goading and baiting each other into performing more terrible feats. Elias killing more “loose ends”, Jon hungrily devouring statements from anyone he meets. Elias owns Jon, and Jon blames and hates him for everything. But they are just so devastatingly incomplete without each other. Two terrible forces of power eating each other to pieces, ending the world in a fury of self destruction and ruling the pieces as gods in eternal torment.

But here Mr. Insomniac is finally getting some z’s in none other than the den of his biggest threat. Finding “safety” and comfort with the man who wants to ruin his life. The man he hates. Or should hate. Maybe it’s after a Blazing Row where Elias ends up performing some very not work safe Discipline to tame him. Jon’s tired, he’s weak, and yet so so sated and empty and Elias molds him easily like warm wax. Try all he likes to break free, he and Jon both know Jon enjoys this. There’s a part of him that craves this sort of comfort. To lick honey off a knife.
I don’t understand people who think that Jonelias shippers are the worst people in the fandom… as if Jmart isn’t also toxic (and they’ll admit Jmart is toxic when someone points it out and then completely ignore it).
Like… this is a horror podcast where most of the characters are horrible people. No matter what you ship, it’s gonna be toxic. Jonelias is essentially Jude x Agnes but Achillian. Of course, its not the exact same, but they’re so similar, yet no one bats an eye when someone ships Jude x Agnes (I’m not entirely sure if they have a ship name).
I don’t hate Martin and I sometimes feel bad for how much he gets dunked on in the fics I write lmaooo but at the same time like it’s so funny to watch him simp over Jon when Jon just wants Elias’ approval and attention.
in lots of fics we get elias as the instigator, the one who desires, the one who falls first, and i can see how its very natural seeing him as obsessive and in love with jon since jon is his whole plan
but im really interested in an elias who is extremely closed off. yes hes interested in jon. but like how one might study a particularly rare book. or an interesting bug. he has walls around his true self a mile thick. he doesnt let people get close. everytime you think youre his friend you realize hes still keeping his distance emotionally
I want a jon who is taking a chisel to those walls and trying to get through and elias who tolerates it cause he doesnt think anyone will be able to break through. he doesnt think anyone can get to see who he really is deep down. doesnt think anyone *wants* to.
jon who is so fucking determined to break through those walls and find out who elias really is and with every little piece he unearths he falls more in love

Based on their conversation in mag 17 and some of Jon’s comments in season 1 I’m convinced that Jon was a constant pain in Elias’s ass from the minute he started at the institute. I also think that’s a big part of why Elias chose Jon to be Archivist. Just…

The way they talk to eachother, Jon is, as always, unnecessary snippy and abrasive. Elias is patient but quietly exasperated. There’s a definite familiarity there. They’ve had many conversations like this before. Then at the end of the episode Jon says

Im just obsessed with Jon and Elias’s comfortably antagonistic pre canon relationship. Like obviously Jon respects and maybe even looks up to Elias as an authority on his chosen field. But he’s also comfortable enough with him to be his unadulterated bitchy self around him.
It’s harder to tell what Elias thinks of Jon since at this point he is keeping his true nature under wraps. But I like to think he’s got an exasperated affection for Jon. Kind of like a pet who’s constantly getting into shit but is so cute you can’t truely get mad at them.
Jon is an insufferable bastard and so is Elias even though he’s (kind of) pretending not to be. Knowing Elias I bet he loves arguing with Jon, probably purposely riles him up because it amuses him. Of course Jon also enjoys arguing with Elias, it’s like one of his main ways of communicating. They are have an ideal bastard for bastard relationship.
I bet the first time Jon came to Elias insisting they should do more with a case he was like, yes finally, this is exactly the obnoxious little guy I’ve been waiting for. Yes Elias chose Jon because he was marked by the spider but I think he also chose Jon because he liked him and was a little bit obsessed with him.
