elias/jon, and all the trigger warnings that come with THAT pairing, set after ep 160

-

His Archivist is exquisite in his suffering, in the mix of rage and pain and guilt and best of all wonder as he gazes up at the eye in the sky that watches him back. His laugh, hysterical, awful, wondrous, that dissolves into ragged cries gives him the same feeling a good vintage red does, the same feeling he gets of seeing Peter Lukas fail at his own game. He despises the messiness of crying, so he’ll let Martin, good, sweet, key to the end of the world Martin take care of that one, but soon, he knows, his Archivist, his Archive will come to him. It’s the only place where he belongs, after all.

“Jon,” Jonah says, letting out that rich, pleased purr just to see him shiver, unwillingly. Martin isn’t at his side, by some misguided sense of protection he knows. He’s never wanted Martin, though. What he wants is right in front of him, eyes glowing, luminous and a perfect match to what’s watching them overhead now, a perfect map of all the things Jonah has done to him. He leans back against his chair, from where he Watches everything with the blessing of his benevolent god.

Jon steps forward, haltingly, those coltish legs of his stumbling until he falls in front of him. Jonah leans forward, cupping Jon’s face, his thumb pressed to his jaw to tilt his head up.

“It’s too much,” Jon rasps, wrecked, and his pain tastes so sweet. “Elias–Jonah, I–it’s too much, I can’t–”

Jonah tsks, running his thumb down the prickly stubble on Jon’s sharp jaw. Jon’s glowing eyes focus blearily on him.

“It is a lot, isn’t it?” he says. “Feeling it all. Seeing it all.” He slides his hand up from that jaw, to tangle in that thick, silver-streaked hair. He pulls at it, so Jon is forced to tip his head up, to look at him, still on his knees. He looks good there. “But think of it as your reward, Jon. You’re my Watcher, my Archive, my best and most perfect creation. And you get to see everything.”

Jon shivers again and makes a low, wrecked noise, and Jonah grins, all teeth. “You’re mine, Archive,” he says, his hand tightening in his hair. “Look at this new world I’ve given you.” And it’s so, so good, so sweet, when Jon’s eyes go wide, intent, bright and glittering, and he sees.

“You really don’t consider any of this a concern?”

The clock in the corner of the room ticks and tocks as steady a rhythm as the pen scratching whatever report Elias is working on while Jon tries to conduct their meeting. He hadn’t gone through the typical procedure of scheduling it—finding it far more pressing how increasingly little the man before him cared about the things people actually told them in statements.

“Oh, they’re a concern alright, but not necessarily to us, or this institution. Not to mention, it has nothing to do with what we’re here for, as I believe I’ve told you before,” Elias flicks his attention up briefly from his docket, to catch Jon’s eyes. He’d think they look beautiful if it weren’t for how piercingly hollow they looked—devoid of warmth, but brimming with intensity at whatever they gazed at. Searching him for something, but he never knows what.

half rest

marrowbones:

“I’m afraid the finer points of opera are beyond me,” Jon admits when he sets Elias’s coffee on the side table and settles on the edge of the bed. A weekend. It’s been raining since early, and the morning is stretching luxuriously long. Elias had insisted Jon actually rest, for once, and enforced it last night by wearing him out so thoroughly that Jon didn’t even dream. He’d woken up to pleasant ache and then, after hours of the static soundtrack of rain, braved the kitchen for coffee and pressed play on the stereo on a whim. The light strains of an aria had filtered through the speakers, a high, sweet soprano.

“It sounds pretty, but it doesn’t go anywhere.”

Elias hums. “‘Going anywhere’ isn’t really the point with opera,” he says indulgently.

“What is, then? Educate me.”

A rainy, lazy, morning and an impromptu voice lesson.

Smoke and Mirrors

Series: The Magnus Archives
Pairing: Elias Bouchard/Jonathan Sims
Summary: Elias offers to help Jon quit smoking. He doesn’t particularly feel that strongly about it, but when presented with another incentive, Jon finds himself going along with it anyway.

It starts with a harmless, albeit likely patronizing, observation.

“That’s a nasty habit.”

Jon’s eyes flick up and away from the hand steadying his lighter, the smoke already starting to drift off the end of his cigarette. He’s used to such comments. Generally, people are even worse about it, go on about how he’s polluting the air and so on—hence, why he’s even on this side of the building, which has more or less been claimed by the other smokers at the Institute.

However, he’s pinned by the fact the words came from none other than Elias Bouchard, Head of the Magnus Institute and currently his boss’s boss. He finishes his inhale, carefully manages his exhale without it sputtering into the coughs his rapidly beating heart want him to make. Evidently, Elias doesn’t smoke or approve of it, which makes Jon wonder if he simply comes out here to make such comments.

general prompt: elias would like jon to associate reading statements with pleasure.

:

It seemed innocent to start.

“It’s a single origin Brazilian coffee,” Elias said with a self-satisfied smirk.  “Surely you wouldn’t deprive yourself a good espresso?”

Jon had only just wrapped up post-statement notes literal seconds before Elias had allowed himself in Jon’s office.  Jon hadn’t been Head Archivist long, and it still stunned him to discover just how immersive statements were.  He was trying to shake off now that unsettling feeling of having been someplace else entirely.  No, not someplace else—someone else.

“Ah, I can’t say I’m knowledgeable about what constitutes a ‘good’ espresso, but I do like coffee—”

“Black,” Elias asserted, “you take your coffee black.  You’ll like this, I promise.”

For an instant Jon believed he saw Elias’s steel-grey eyes flash an unnatural shade of green.  Strange lighting in the basement.  “Right,” said Jon uneasily.  “Well, what do I owe you?”

Elias chuckled and waved his hand with the coffee in it, causing the aroma to waft up and out to Jon.  It smelled delicious.  “Jon, I told you, the barista gave me two drinks by mistake.  Just take it, won’t you?”  He held out the cup expectantly.

“Well, thanks,” muttered Jon.  He took the cup, and tried to ignore how nice it felt when Elias’s forefinger (surely on accident) stroked over the sensitive V between Jon’s middle and index fingers.

“I am delighted with the way you’ve been adjusting to your new department, Jon,” Elias said fondly.  “Just do what you need to, and you’ll be fine.”

AU concept: Jon is already an avatar of The Eye and undercover at the Institute.  RATED EXPLICIT

xx

The future was unknown to Jonathan Sims.

That was why it had surprised him to be promoted to Head Archivist at the Magnus Institute after only four short years.  A welcome surprise, to be sure, although he would have remained committed to the long game as originally intended had that proven necessary.  The way things had been going with Gertrude Robinson, it had only been a matter of time before she got herself murdered by Jonah Magnus sooner or later.  But Jon never could have calculated for Jonah acting erratically (albeit understandably) in the heat of the moment.

Jon had come to the Institute those years ago after The Eye first showed Jonah to him, revealing Jonah’s plans to destroy the world and rule its remains.  Jon would not have been able to tell you why, as an avatar, he seemed to be so highly favored.  Was it because as a young boy marked by The Web, Jon had devoured any knowledge he could unearth on the Fears without even a mentor to guide his findings?  For all its impersonality, was it possible that Beholding could develop something akin to affection for a child seeking to serve it so fervently?

Whatever the reason for it, Jon enjoyed The Eye’s horrible blessing.

Jonah Magnus was over 200 years old and had reaped the benefits of having a failed Watcher’s Crown under his belt.  Jon was barely pushing thirty, but with The Eye revealing and concealing whatever and however it saw fit, Jon and Jonah were all but evenly matched.  Make no mistake, although he preferred a more “human” life devoid of any rituals and ostentation, Jon was a monster, terrible and awesome, and he knew it.  Now Jon spied on Jonah for years in Jonah’s own place of power, a place where Jonah was only known by the name Elias, and the Ceaseless Watcher kept Jonah blind to Jon’s machinations—just so long as It could Watch the resulting show.

Suffice to say, there was no way in all the Entities’ domains that Jon was about to sit back and let Jonah bring about the Apocalypse.

Not if Jon might be able to bring it about first.

The affair had not been a part of the plan.  But perhaps it had been inevitable, two acolytes of the same god orbiting around each other.  Besides, both were handsome in their own unique right; both spoke with voices dark and smooth as magnetic tape.  Both of them had a touch of The Lonely about them, even if they didn’t serve it.  And although Beholding would not allow Jonah to behold all there was to Jon, Jonah sensed just enough about Jon to know that he craved to Know more.

The static hiss of the tape recorder cut through the silence of the Archives. Everyone else had long since left, if they had even bothered to turn up at all in Tim’s case, and Jon was left alone in the empty office.
The Archivist himself was curled up under his desk, head pressed between his knees as pain stabbed behind his eyes. A low whine ripped from his throat as he curled himself into a tighter ball.

“With me. Is there something you need Jonathan? I have work to finish and you,” Elias made a motion of looking towards the clock ticking away on the wall, despite him knowing exactly what time it was, “should be heading home I believe, you must be tired from your trip.”

Elias was no stranger to drugs. So there was absolutely no reason why he should be so high right now.
