is it just me who as an ace person is just sooo unbothered ABT people depicting Jon as sex positive/ in general nsfw content

like

first of all in my experience it doesn’t tend to feel like it’s fetishising his sexuality

secondly it’s good rep for the fact that asexuality =/= chastity

thirdly there’s no evidence he’s sex repulsed. Our evidence for an ace Jon is 3rd hand office gossip that he “just doesn’t”

not “he’s ace” or “he NEVER” just an offhand comment that he doesn’t. and I like to interpret this as him being ace but it’s not actually specifically asexuality within the content (not certain if the creators have commented on it outside the content) and imo we have to accept not everyone will interpret that as him being a sex repulsed ace

also at the end of the day it’s not that deep let people have fun

Me? Forgetting to post my sketch pages? Expect it by now, honestly.

perl-in-my-head:

I miss him

i am getting so tired of the Jon-asexuality discourse like just LET PEOPLE LIVE

LET PEOPLE DO WHAT THEY WANT

I’m ace, i get off, i make sex jokes, I don’t want to have sec with an actual human being, but I’ll read slash fics, I get horny for fictional men, I joke that I want to fuck them, I don’t, but I might be a smutfic of these characters when I feel like it, none of this makes me any less asexual.

saying all ace people are virgins and have never and will never have sex and have no libido and are “uwu liddle babees” who are oblivious is just factually incorrect.

some ace people don’t have sex.

some do.

Jon’s asexuality is left vague for a REASON.

we hear about through gossip, from someone who 1) hates Jon 2) heard it from his EX. That’s not the most reliable source. I hate to break it to you, but it’s not. It’s second hand information that is, AGAIN, left vague. So that the viewer may interpret it however they like.

someone interpreting Jon as sex-favorable is fine. It’s a headcanon. We don’t ACTUALLY know bc there’s no sex scene or lack of sex scene. Because it doesn’t matter whether or not he has sex! It adds nothing to the overall story, but if you want to write smut with Jon, that’s fine!

Stop getting so uncomfortable, it’s a fictional character and these fics are hurting no one. Stop “calling people out” just because they’re writing something you don’t like. It’s like saying someone who writes detective novels is a cop or condones murder.

and most of the fics I’ve seen are by ace people who are projecting their own sexuality onto Jon, maybe even figuring out their asexuality through him. I realized a lot of my asexuality by reading some of these fics!

hell, even if you don’t like Jon having sex or feeling attraction to people, there’s fics where he ISNT attracted but will still have sex bc guess what! Even allo people have sex with people they aren’t attracted to! Bc they want to! Bc some people like having sex with others!

no ond is trying to erase Jon’s asexuality. You’re just mad because not everyone has the same headcanon as you. And guess what? You can block tags, block creators, you can block people on ao3, you can filter out smut on ao3, all of this is easily avoidable if you just curate your own expirience.

people are gonna write smut of any and every ace character. It’s not inherently acephobic to do so. Especially not when someone who is acespec is just projecting onto a fictional character who’s sexuality was left vague for that reason.

if you disagree, fine. You can always just look the other way.

God. Agree these are my exact opinions on it LMAO. Idgaf how someone portrays jons asexuality and frankly the whole ‘HES ACE HE HASNT HEARD OF SEX EVER’ is just. Uncomfortable and aphobic to me as an ace person LMAO - rosette

YEAH . agreed ! as an ace person as well it isss . a spectrum guys . somebody making the canon ace character have sex isn’t going to kill you . i can obviously understand if you’re uncomfortable with it due to being ace yourself but non-ace people shouldn’t be trying to dictate how other people headcanon a characters asexuality to be . - deceit

tw suicide

people point to Jon not blinding himself in Season 4 as the main example of his insatiable curiosity being his tragic flaw that leads to his downfall but honestly given the evidence available to us the audience I don't think it was ever an option for Jon. he DIED, he was DEAD, he was being kept alive by the Eye. we are never given any indication that it is possible for an Avatar to regain their humanity, and that actually being possible would be pretty lore- and tone-shattering for TMA. this tells me that either Jon would've been unable to symbolically reject the Eye by blinding himself, or that he could've done it but it would've killed him. heck in that very same season we are shown how Daisy being cut off from the Hunt makes her terminally(!!!) ill, the only thing that can keep her alive at that point is her connection with her Entity.

If the choice that Jon faced in S4 was "risk everyone's lives and keep his coworkers trapped at the Institute by continuing to indulge his insatiable curiosity vs. blinding himself to get his and his coworkers' freedom at the cost of his eyesight and the chance to Learn More" then yeah I'd say Jon made the wrong choice, but that wasn't the choice he was facing. The choice was "risk everyone's lives and keep his coworkers trapped at the Institute by continuing to indulge his insatiable curiosity vs. getting his coworkers' freedom by literally killing himself". And that is a VERY different situation! Maybe others might still argue that Jon was in the wrong but I can't for a moment agree with the idea that Jon was morally obligated to kill himself.

Honestly the fact that this is barely brought up in the story is kind of weird because Jon was looking for any excuse for his actions at that point so the fact that he DIDN'T latch on to the idea that no, he can't blind himself because he would *literally die*, feels like a missed opportunity, and also has resulted in people treating the situation like Jon had an actual choice between two options that both involved big personal sacrifice but both had merits, when all available evidence tells me that's not the truth of the situation at all.

I support lesbians rights and wrongs but if you put me in a room with season four basira she’s walking out with at LEAST a black eye and a broken bone

Jon feels so…not conventionally attractive? Like at all

I don’t not know how to explain this but something about how this man acts feels very much like “I was bullied for my looks and I have never seen them in a positive light since.” Like I hear him talk and I’m just like “Yeah no, the little self worth he has is not his looks.” Also it feels like he partially tries to make up for that by sacrificing his own safety over and over again and trying to be ‘useful’. Like it’s a very small part of why he’s does that and I could go on and on about how little he values himself and how he copes with his depression throughout the different seasons but that’s a topic for another day.

Also I need people to understand I’m not saying this purely because of his low self worth. Martin has low self worth at the beginning but even then it doesn’t feel like he hates how he looks. Martin always feels very neutral towards his own appearance even though it’s never brought up. Basira feels like she’s like pretty. Like when she entered the podcast, something about her FELT pretty, something about her was like conventionally attractive woman right here. Daisy doesn’t feel as (conventionallly) pretty but I feel like she’s gotten a few compliments here and there at the very least. Jon doesn’t feel like that. He feels like someone who in their teen years cried themselves to sleep because of how they looked. He sounds like someone who at best feels neutral towards mirrors and on his worst days, doesn’t look at them. Was this hinted at? No. Is it probably me self projecting on my favourite character?…Maybe. But it was just a random thought and as an unconventionally attractive person, I just felt something. Alsoooo

  1. I’M NOT SUGGESTING THIS COS HE’S ACE. I think he’s ace cos he’s just ace. His looks have nothing to do with it
  2. I’m not saying Jon is the most ugly thing to grace the earth. I’m saying he’s not up to beauty standards and that is perfectly fine. Beauty standards are toxic and stupid anyways.
  3. Also it would be very cute to think of Martin just cuddling with him and telling him that he thinks Jon is beautiful. Not like completely trying to fix his self image but just reassuring him some very few times when Jon can’t suppress the insecurities.
