October 2025

Hi do you have an ao3 account or just fic recs In general? I’ve been looking through your account and I feel like you read a lot of good ones.

Hey! Yeah! My AO3 is HERE! You can read the few I have myself or there’s my bookmarks!

I appreciate the confidence in my tastes. My apologies if it’s not exactly what you’re looking for. If ya want I can narrow the ones I have there into my top five?

Okay, so, decided to go ahead and make a reclist. Couldn’t really narrow it down to just five, so here’s eight of them. In sort of an order of faves and similar themes.

STOPGAP PROPHECY by PRISMATICAL
one shot, ~16k words

I used to read this one basically every night when the last act of season five was airing. Brang me much comfort. Essentially, just Jon fucking losing it on everyone and them actually having an ounce of sympathy for him. Highly out of character (they would murder him and not even feel anything about it) but still. Kept me from going insane during it all.

WHERE THERE’S A WILL, WE MAKE A WAY by BUBONICKITTEN
34/? chapters, ~305k words

Let me count the ways I love this fic. It has time/dimension travel as the premise is an alternate end-of-the-apocolypse Jon travels using Hill Top Road to when he was comatose/dead, it has frank discussions of issues the series refused to have when it comes to their treatment of Jon, it even has statement speech where Jon can only speak using quotes from statements.
Unfinished, although the author says she will. Please read.

IT WILL BE THIS, ALWAYS by BLUEJAYBLUESKIES
10 chapters, ~52k words

Ever wanna read a fic where Jon brings up all the issues he and Martin has as well as his suicidal thoughts? And also where they get dangerously close to breaking up? Well. Here ya go. Set elsewhere, its an examination on how they cope with. Well. Everything. Lots of discomfort here with a ‘happy’ ending, and I wish they had actually broken up, but what can you do :/

A LITTLE BROKEN, A LITTLE BRIGHT by SWORDSONNET
10 chapters, ~79k words

Similar to the prior fic, a deep examination on all the issues Jon and Martin have or will have if they survived to elsewhere. Heavy on the suicidal thoughts here, though, as Jon is actively self harming in so many words. Doesn’t much include a discussion of breaking up like the prior does, but it doesn’t ignore that their relationship is not the best and they do talk about it.

THE WORTH OF A LIFE by AMBERASTRA
4 chapters, ~16k words

Jon dies! Sort of! Premise is a version where Jon goes along with the plan and hasn’t seen It’s A Wonderful Life so a phantom Gerry takes place of Clarence when Jon is about to jump off a bridge to shows him, and the others, that even if Jon hadn’t been around to 'cause the end of the word’, everything would still be FUCKED. Very cathartic, much emotional release, surprise in the epilogue.

“IT’S NOT ABOUT YOU” “IT NEVER IS” by IWANNABEYAHTZEE
3 chapters, ~10k words

Jon dies! For real this time! Completes suicide mid season three and the aftermath of what that brings. Spoiler alert, Basira takes his place as the Archivist. There’s a lot of character bashing of Basira and Martin being the vocal point of that, which doesn’t make sense to me, but as long as she gets hers I don’t give a fuck, lol. How’s it feel to be hungry? How’s it feel to be a monster? How’s that poetic justice? Pretty good it doesn’t seem.
Eat shit and die, Basira.

UNLOVELY THING by RUNARELLE
7 chapters, ~29k words

Most recent fic I’ve read and one of the few 'Jon goes through with quitting’ fics I have here. Not a lot of spite and anger, and it does have some moments of the others being uncharacteristically reasonable. Still. Fairly cathartic. Need to reread it, but I wouldn’t have bookmarked it if it wasn’t good, lol.

ASK AN EXEC[…] by SHNEYOPALS
6 chapters, ~43k words

Epistolary, outsider perspective fic in a sense. Jon, under an anonymous pseudonym, sends questions throughout the seasons to a website seeking help. An injection of sanity into the insanity of the series, as it lays out the facts and talks them through from both sides of things. Sympathetic to Jon without coddling, understanding of the others without excusing them.

If you look through my bookmarks later, you’ll see a lot of fics I should get rid of tbh. Had a weird hanahaki disease phase. A lot of JMart in general. The big Supernatural Crossover I wrote also includes JMart in it as being, like, able to be healthy, but that’s cause it wasn’t about that, lol. So. Anyway. Hope this helps :)

early morning haterism

I deeply hate the whole “Jon doesn’t deserve martin” thing because what does it even mean! martin is not some saint or angel. he isn’t even a good person. in terms of being a monster he is firmly s3 Jon except worse because he is in denial and refuses to think about it (straight up refuses to know anything about his own domain) while being a massive hypocrite. there is nothing special about martin that makes Jon undeserving of him or his love. and while Helen saying that doesn’t mean it’s true, martin doesn’t actually refute it (and if he does, please tell me, I can’t remember)

this whole idea of martin being too good for Jon just irks me so much because he isn’t even that good! he is petty and rude and kind of an asshole. which is fine! as long as you don’t act like he is morally superior to Jon and Jon should grovel and be grateful 💀

I’m at MAG 22 in my relisten, and it got me thinking a bit about the fandom’s certainty that Jon absolutely despised Martin’s guts.

I’m pretty sure Jon’s dislike of Martin was only ever prompted by the man’s utter incompetence and didn’t extend much further, considering how he offered Martin a room in the archives without any hesitation whatsoever. Jon’s far more caring than most people give him credit for

I mean. If he really was that much of a cold and unempathetic asshole as people like to paint him, then he wouldn’t have offered Martin anything. He could’ve just said something along the lines of “well I’m sure that was very upsetting” and “I guess I need to thank you for bringing me proof of your encounter, I’ll look into it more and let you know what I find”. He could’ve carefully researched Martin’s statement and then sent him back to his flat, since the Prentiss threat was likely gone. He didn’t have to offer Martin a place to stay. But he did! And it was kind and thoughtful of him!

Yeah, I also keep thinking about how Jon (as far as he knew) was already putting himself at risk, because

He’s terrified. And he gives Martin his safe, protected vault while he himself takes great risks to get to his place while Jane Prentiss was threatening him and, to his knowledge, on the hunt for him. To his knowledge, he might be her next target. It is absolutely not safe for him to be out in the open like that. But he still does it, because he tries to keep Martin safe.

An unsympathetic asshole might have just told Martin that he’d look into it and then locked himself in his vaulted document storage, fearing for his life. Jon did the opposite.

Not only Jon is kind and thoughtful far more than people give him credit for, but he’s also willing to sacrifice his life for Martin - a man he thinks of as incompetent and actively making Jon’s life harder.

Fans who say Jonathan Sims is a cold and unsympathetic asshole lack media comprehension. Jon has always been rather kind and caring in his actions and put himself at risk for other people.

there reeeeeeeaaaalllyy is something there about The Web in TMA repeatedly targeting children

Like. the eldritch fear of having no control over your circumstances, no autonomy, choices made for you, being forced down paths you don’t want, being given choices but they don’t actually matter and nothing you choose will tangibly change anything.

it’s almost like there’s an entire demographic colloquially called “dependents” who are particularly susceptible to experiencing that horror!

and also there’s spiders

a character being a perpetrator does not negate their victimhood and neither does their victimhood negate being a perpetrator. it is not that difficult to accept and reckon w both dimensions

bad things happening leads to more bad things happening. u can create a monster. it is a condemnation of the bad things themselves first and foremost

THE Archivist

jokamachai:

Tried out a new brush. Ended up with soft Jon eyes

incorporealpng:

one of these days im unleashing my draft about how jon isnt actually weak and pathetic the fandom just likes to horrifically mischaracterize him and also havent unpacked the idea that men showing emotions/struggles ≠ “weak, pathetic twink”

marstriesthings:

I’ll admit I wasn’t necessarily that attached to Jon when I started this. He was funny, I enjoyed his detached sarcasm and sometimes thought it was a bit much - but I don’t blame him because one in every 10 of the stories HE read was probably ever actually true. He was just the archivist telling me a bunch of interesting stories that seemed deeper than it was.

And then he just went “I’m…very, very tired” and my heart just did a thing and my god I think if anything bad happens to him I feel like I might cry too what the hell!?

dathen:

Who did Jon actually suspect in TMA season 2?

An age-old fandom joke is to make fun of season 2 Jon for “accusing Tim and Martin of murder” and “he suspected everyone but Not!Sasha.”  I’m on a roll from my “did season 1 Jon dismiss statements” series, so now I gotta tackle this one!

My main goal is to point out the times he DID suspect Not!Sasha–and was the only human on the team to do so–but for the hell of it I’m going to keep a tally of how many times he mentions investigating/suspecting each person.  I’m also going to note other out-of-place things Jon noticed, some of which were due to Leitner, but definitely played a role in confirming that someone within the archives was being deceptive.

Jon, as a kid, had a habit of wandering into places he shouldn’t. So I propose as a teen he discovered parkour and that’s how he was able to get into Gertrude’s flat and also in his downtime he dresses like a skater in layered short sleeve over long sleeve shirts and wide legged pants. He alternates between wearing Converse and Vans but he prefers Vans.
