So I recently listened to the snippet we get in TMA of Gerry and Gertrude and like man the layers here
Because on the surface it seems fairly lighthearted, Gerry and Gertrude banter. It seems affectionate, Gertrude seems to like it I think like she’s quick witted and Gerry is too and you can almost read this as sort of sweet in a way?
But then shortly after this she chastises him.
And Gerry’s reaction. He has instant panic where he cant scrabble an explanation quick enough. He then goes ‘I’m sorry’ with a soft tone that makes him suddenly seem much younger, much smaller. And then he says it again, slightly more indignant.
(And not to project too much as for me this hits kind of close to the bone and if you’ve been in a similar situation I think you know this feeling)
And then Gertrude says 'You are occasionally useful’ and sure Gerry plays it off with sarcasm but there’s some hurt behind that sarcasm. And Gertrude’s tone is… I’d say condescending?
