I absolutely love stories with unreliable and/or clearly biased narrators. I love when narrators say things that are then immediately contradicted by one or more of the characters in a way that shows that they are being dishonest. I love unreliable narrators that are purposely being dishonest and trying to twist the narrative into what they want you to believe. I love unreliable narrators that don’t actually have any intention to be deceitful but their own bias, pride, shame, or whatever else keeps them from being able to see and explain things truly objectively. I love unreliable narrators who describe characters and events as wildly different than the reality, and it is then shown later on that they were purposely lying or were genuinely mistaken about them. I love unreliable narrators. I love narrators with a personality. I love narrators that, even if they aren’t actually there, feel like just as much of a character themself as the actual characters in the story.
