The character designs for these two are based on the ones by @thirdchildart who introduced me to the podcast in the first place and who is storyboarding a big part of episode 159 ‘The Last’ as a fan-project at the moment (It is going to be amazinG!!!)
I binged through four seasons in the last month and it was the perfect mix of horror and mystery to listen to for the autumn season. Now I still have the final season in front of me and man, have I grown fond of these voices, these characters, the story and the makers of the show as well. Just great stuff.
Edit: There has been the critique of Jon’s design harboring a closeness to problematic stereotypes, especially with his stylization coming across as much more exaggerated than Martin’s. I was trying out something here (with an interest in the aesthetics of exaggerated forms), but after giving it a lot of thought and since the little image series has been shared much more often than I expected, I decided to make some amendments. Not too big ones actually, but enough to give Jon hopefully a more natural, less caricatured look and even out the gap in stylization between the characters to some extend. I leave examples of the changes here:
Well… I usually don’t really write fanfiction, but instead prefer to stick more directly to the text and focusing on my own visual interpretation for that (unless it is jokey jokes, then all bets are off). But I also am a sucker for casual romance side plots that while being not the main focus of the story still are there and important to the characters and their progression. Hence these kind of scenes don’t need much prompting to form in my brain… It was important to me that their dialogue, as I imagined it in their voices, still sounded true to their characters and I tried out several things for the coloration of this to make it als light and fluffy as possible without becoming too kitschy? It is more or less the antithesis to the Lonely scene… also since weird kissing sounds are not a problem in this medium… yeah. Yeah.
