Sometimes defending the protagonist of a story is not a case of protagonist centred morality but rather that everyone else has pissed me off so much with things often not even related to their treatment of the protagonist that the protagonist is the only person left for me to like, and I’m pretty sure I’d apply “protagonist centred morality” to this group of people even if I met them in real life in a situation where none of them is being centred more than the others just because I know what kind of moral attitudes I can jive with and what kinds I can’t.

Like, as an example: I knew what stance I took on the tma ending dilemma as soon as it was revealed, the fact that the protagonist later turned out to be the only character to agree with me does not imply I base my moral stances on his opinions (since, again, it preceded my knowledge of his opinions), it just means that he’s the only character written to have opinions I can agree with.

do you ever think about jon in Another Twist, and how michael’s offer of death is to open a door? do you ever think about jon’s quiet, defeated “okay…” as he realizes that his life is going to end now, with a door? just like it almost ended all those years ago, when he raised his hand to knock?

do you think, when jon looked at michael’s spidery hands and the door that was going to consume him, it felt like the only natural conclusion?
