Through this listen through (restarted cause anniversaries) I’m noticing something I kinda brushed off as like. Writing issues. Namely how in these first six episodes, a lot of the statement givers backtrack on things they said. I kinda thought it was a weird quirk of like. Having written something but realizing it didn’t exactly fit, y’know? Cause it wasn’t like they actively changed anything about the event. Not lying. But misremembering or overstating. But now I’m thinking. Maybe. That would be a point in WHY Jon doesn’t automatically accept the statements. Like. We know he knows they really happened later on, but in a first go around, you would think MAYBE it would lead you to assume MAYBE it’s reasonable for him to think ‘well they can’t even keep parts of their story straight, what else could they be mistaking,’ y’know? But so many people position Jon as automatically dismissing them for no reason. When that’s verifiably untrue. Sure the narrative leads you to that, so I can’t be that bothered, but like……… textually, it’s just not on.
