Headcanons that feature in any of my post-series AUs where Jon goes along with the plan and doesn’t blow up with the Panopticon.
Under Read More cause it got long. Whoops.
- despite my respect about how the sequel series establishes that they were played by the Web and their happily ever after didn’t actually come true, because it makes me happy to know they have no peace and may feel an ounce of the guilt and suicidality that Jon did, I don’t wanna play that game. I wanna play in a sandbox where Jon gets to heal. so none of that. canon is already doing that and, grudgingly, better than I ever would.
- I think Georgie would, in fact, try and make actual amends about how she treated Jon. I think she would see that he actually was trying and wasn’t as self-centered as she believed and would try to rekindle an actual friendship that wasn’t based on him being on the lam or her belief that he was seeking out ways to make his life harder. I think she would go overboard with it to the point of smothering him and his autonomy.
- I think Melanie would, seeing that Jon wasn’t as egotistical as she thought and was actually attempting to fix his wrongs, would eventually let go of some of her anger towards him. I think she wouldn’t view him as a friend or confidant, but would accept that he wasn’t the source of all her suffering and truly see him as ‘just some guy’ that shared experiences with her.
- I think Basira would never not wait for him to fuck up. I think she would always check in on whatever he’s doing and analyze everything she sees with the expectation that at some point he would show his true colors and reveal ill-intent. I think this would never outwardly affect how she interacts with him, that she would never talk to or treat him any differently than anyone else, but it would be there in the back of her mind.
- Full-stop, Martin and Jon break up like three months later. They yo-yo between blaming themselves or blaming each other the entire time for anything and everything that went wrong or goes wrong. They do not know how to not react like everything is the end of the world because they have no basis for their relationship not being tied to the end of the world.
- Eventually Jon just gets tired of everything to do with them. I think he tries, at first, to stop making any choices of his own. I think he goes along with everything they want [twice weekly lunches and Friday game nights with Georgie and Melanie at Georgie’s request, where they live and how they live and what they do and when they do it is all decided by Martin] and tries to keep what relationships he has because he does not want to make any new connections with anyone else. I think when the break up with Martin happens, however it happens, he leaves without any way to contact him. He burns every bridge he has and vows to never have any relationships of any kind with anyone ever again. Not just because of his view of being unworthy of them, but because he refuses to be used or hurt again and the only way to prevent that is by keeping people at a distance.
- I genuinely don’t see why people put Jon in an academic setting after everything is said and done. I genuinely don’t see why people think Jon would WANT to go back into academia after everything. Some kind of reclamation thing? I can maybe see that. In any case. I think Jon should work in a cafe. I think it would do him good to not have any position of authority or knowledge. A position where he can see the best and worse of humanity and get glimpses into people’s lives that aren’t colored by fear. I think he also should be able to complain about bad customers because he should get to complain about people without it being seen as a personality defect that he should be punished and dehumanized for.
- I think maybe eventually he would start to befriend his coworkers but in an opposite way. He’s friendly and cordial and kind while they’re in the cafe, but declines every invitation to any outside event and only minimally acknowledges them if he sees them in a shop. Something like that.
- I want Jon to maybe eventually get a girlfriend because everyone forgets he’s biromantic and that she’d also be ace but I cannot see him ever getting to that place with anyone ever again but I’m trying I promise I’m trying to get him there.
Okay. That’s all, I guess. Eviscerate me if you wish.
