At my most uncharitable, I wouldn’t be surprised if Martin’s whole ‘appear unassuming and bumbling in order to manipulate the people around him into doing what he wants’ extended to the supposed feelings he had for Jon and that in fact a huge part of JMart being together was because Martin saw Jon as a means to an ends (I.e., his very survival) and that everything he said to him during the apocalypse and whatever we didn’t see during their time in the safe house was calculated and when they were finally free of the horrors that Martin would’ve skipped out of town.
