Melanie King and Jonathan Sims are very similar characters. This is pointed out in Melanie’s conversation with Georgie in Season 5. when she acknowledges that their similarities probably have something to do with why she dislikes Jon so much. However, I’d like to point out that they’re so alike they even have similar backstories using the story Melanie tells Jon about why she got kicked out of the ghost hunting community.

Melanie realized that there was a huge list of places that her colleagues stayed clear of and decided to investigate. = Jon spends the entire series poking his nose into things most people would stay clear of.

Melanie’s friends started to distance themselves from her because she started crossing unspoken lines = Again, Jon through the whole series really, but a good example of this is when Jon awakes from his coma. His survival crosses an unspoken line, and everyone except Martin and Daisy push him away because of it.

Melanie started hearing not so subtle warnings about straying from the path but she felt like she couldn’t go back after she had seen something strange. She couldn’t ignore the call. = Jon gets told by EVERYONE at some point that he’s walking a path he can’t easily find his way back from, and yet he keeps going because he can’t ignore a call once he’s heard it say his name.

She started talking to people less. She stopped sharing her research. By the time something bad happened to her and needed support everyone had already given up on her partially as a consequence of her own reclusive behavior = This is just Jon’s arc in Season 2. He stalks his coworkers and doesn’t hide at all how little he trusts them. He hides the things he’s investigating from them, and when the time comes when he DOES need their support, Tim has already given up on him and he and Martin aren’t as close as they could have been.

Melanie and Jon are the same person, just in different fonts. Which was basically a death knell for any friendship that could have been between them. Both of them are too filled with too much self-loathing to be able to look at another person and feel comfortable seeing a mirror back. And that’s really the biggest cause of conflict between them.

The Magnus Archives podcast cover. It features a green spider web forming the shape of a cassette tape with the words "The Magnus Archives" bellow it.ALT

The Magnus Archives was secretly an anti-smoking PSA the whole time.

Reasoning: Those damn cigarettes are always luring people into trouble.

Wait there are fans of the victorian era men? I never encountered them

What are they like? Why do you dislike them?

Ah. Yeah. To be fair, they’re not really around anymore and weren’t all that obtrusive. They just. Existed.

Basically, they just liked the idea that Jonah was fucking all these different men (or each other) and all that shit. Called them ‘Jonah’s Harem’ and wrote fic and smut about that time of Jonah’s life.

Mostly I just found it weird that anyone found anything interesting enough about any of those guys to care about. And yeah okay they might’ve been everywhere for a bit there so they got annoying FAST.

In any case, I just block ‘em if they crop up.

Tbh a loooot of the things the fandom says are pure imagination. The safehouse period was made up. The archival team socialising was made up. The podcast just gave a vague hint about something happening offscreen and the fandom decided that since nothing was said about their beloved blorbos directly, then there simply must have been situations in which their blorbos were caring and loving to eachother, because thats what they see them as and they're opposed to the simplest yet most possible explanation - that these people barely cared about eachother. They are sooo starved of fluff they forgot that fanfiction is only that - fan made fiction. It's not canon. It never was.

Yeppp. And I’m SURE they could take dialogue and use it as evidence for their perspectives. And maybe there’s some merit to that. But I don’t WANT to be the bigger person and view them as having complex motivations and relationships. I WANT to be angry and hurt. Isn’t that the whole point of ~tragedy~? To feel bad? So making these moments where it wasn’t so bad for Jon with the others, lessens that to me.

levaagrace:

“jon and martin aren’t boring” this. “jon and martin are toxic” that. “jon and martin are sooooo fucked up for-”

*extremely loud buzzer*

ANYWAY lets talk about jon and daisy

what if you tried to kill me because i violated your autonomy and gave you endless nightmares. what if i was terrified of you as we were forced to work together. what if i was terrified of myself. what if i became what you tried to kill. what if the relief i felt at your death was overshadowed by the relief i felt knowing you weren’t dead and could give someone who also wanted me dead the gift of your survival. what if i thought saving you would ensure my death, whether by your hands or not. what if you decided i was someone you could become better with because you decided you were wrong. what if you were wrong about being wrong. what if, even after my faults were revealed, you still tried to do better and help me be better. what if this meant you lost yourself. what if you tried to kill me again but this time it didn’t matter. what if i wanted you to recognize me as anything other than prey because you were the only one who TRULY SAW ME.

…or…

what if i tried to kill you because most of my life i got away with extra-judiciously killing people i deemed monsters. what if i didn’t get away with it. what if i planned on still killing you but instead i was stuck with the weight of everything i did and found myself lacking. what if you came in to save me because you hoped i would kill you. what if i forgot why i thought you deserved to die in the first place. what if we tried to be better together but there was no real trust between us because a part of you still expected to die by my hands and a part of me still wanted you dead. what if you were weak and failed and i didn’t care because i knew what i did was no better. what if I couldn’t find it in myself to blame you. what if i still tried despite your failure. what if, in the end, you helped show me what really needed saving and protection AND IT WASN’T MYSELF.

anyway, your honor, in conclusion, i plead insanity
