Like I mentioned on the prior post, he represents patient discrimination in the medical field. Basically, he is the one doing the discriminating.
In other words, he is a lot of bad things (racist, sexist, ableist, ageist, homophobic, transphobic, and probably more)

A very important thing I put into his personality, he is a MAJOR hypocrite. It’s how he’s transphobic yet trans at the same time.
He’s also transmed or whatever it’s called (a trans people who believe that dysphoria is required to identify as transgender)
He’s hypocritical like if he doesn’t know what you’re experiencing, he thinks you’re lying. But if you gave him the same treatment, he would think you’re stupid and toxic
Him being a racist does affect how he views the POC boys on the island (Roger, Simon, and potentially Maurice)
Vince’s opinion on them:
Roger: “the perfect worker. He’s quiet and listens to me and Jack. I enjoy being around him.”
Simon: “he is quiet, but he wonders off too much. He needs to listen to his superiors more.”
Maurice: “his people shouldn’t have this much attention and be so obnoxious. He needs to be quiet and obedient.”
His opinion and racism only after the island where he gets married to Lila. After violently shoving him into the right (not racist) direction, and after a couple situations (not saying yet 😸), he FINALLY changes his views.

Im a little confused about how you got this idea? Throughout the book especially in the begging his character blends in and stays quiet i mean yeah sure you could argue that he didn’t listen to Ralph when he told him and the hunters to watch the fire exept Ralph gave Jack order over the hunters/the choir and Hack told them to hunt so technically he was listening. I don’t see a point in the book where he’s NOT listening to what Jack asks of him. He doesn’t really stick out from the other boys till towards the end but honestly it doesn’t seem like he acted the way he did to stand out he was just more brutal with his actions which made him stick out. But even when he makes the switch to savagery/butalness he still listens to what Jack orders and doesn’t fight against it the only time he questioned Jack was when he beat Wilfred and Roger asked why but even then we wasnt asking why to question Jacks authority, he was plainly just curious about the reasoning. And when Jack dismisses giving a reason, he doesn’t fight for it. No, to mention, he’s Jacks right-hand man and fun fat about having a right hnd man it doesn’t really work out if the person doesn’t listen. Leaders who have a right-hand man usually pick someone with similar ideals, listen to what they say, and work hard. I don’t really see and evidence that he DOESNT work hard or listen. 🤷
roger’s character from the beginning is that of one who just undermines authority for the sake of it, because he’s intrigued by that sense of control. with his first real introduction it’s him suggesting “Let’s have a vote” - we know from his actions and demeanour later that this isn’t out of any care for fairness or democracy, because he doesn’t care about fairness and democracy. He’s only done that to knock Jack subtly down a peg and to test his own control, because before his suggestion Jack was pretty clearly gearing up to be chief, which likely wouldn’t have actually been disputed this early in the novel, as it’s only once the boys start to actually look for a leader that Ralph stands out to them, whereas if Roger hadn’t spoken up due to his need to control the situation and get under Jack’s skin, Jack would’ve easily commandeered himself into being Chief (seeing as ralph only like actually even volunteered when people started actually suggesting him).
this is to say, roger is just genuinely a contrary character just for the sake of pushing boundaries. he is not an ally to Jack, and he doesn’t obey Jack, it’s just that Jack lets him do what he wants more because ultimately by the end of the novel he genuinely has more power than Jack does - holding the “nameless authority” of one who semi-deliberately killed another boy in broad daylight through only his own actions.
I’m kinda confused as to why you thought I’d use the weird convoluted flimsy evidence of “roger and the other hunters dilly dallied rather than building a fire” when he’s not even mentioned by name in any of that passage I don’t think, rather than the whole like couple paragraphs dedicated to him testing his control over the littluns and his own capacity and ability to harm. and while yes i understand why this could obviously be interpreted in the way op did, that roger is fascinated by the concept of like violence and stuff, I feel like if you look deeper it’s quite clearly written to be more about testing the control he has over other people and their ability to stop him from doing what he wants, therefore the kinda thing that would NOT make him a good worker ‼️ when he’s throwing the stones at Henry the littlun with the intent to test himself, the text describes how his arm was “conditioned by civilisation”, which isn’t a thing that I feel would’ve been written if he was just doing it for the sake of like (metaphorically) edging himself with violence? he isn’t specifically interested in the violence that would come in him following orders in a controlled medical environment, he’s interested in his own capacity to harm for power, which is why it describes how he “threw to miss” the stones rather than just exploring other violence.
We can also see quite clearly that Jack is intimidated by Roger even before he’s killed Piggy, and this is because he very clearly knows that Roger could likely take control of all the boys through fear if he wanted the responsibility of it. We see this in how Jack’s quick to try and explain and defend his ideas to Roger, such as the dazzle paint for hunting pigs (describing how “he twisted in the urgency of telling” because he truly wants Roger’s approval on this.)
But ya, as I was saying, roger is just genuinely a contrary character for the sake of it, rather than one who listens to literally anyone else on the island. this is shown in how, in response to the fire going out and the ship going past them and them being left behind on the island forever, roger’s response when ralph gets pissy with jack for wasting time hunting is “We’ve got plenty of time!”, highlighting his lack of care about rescue or coping with the island or working together, and instead just his own desire to stir up problems for fun.
omg this is also shown when he decides to skulk along on the little expedition up the mountain with Ralph and Jack (again i feel like this is due to his personal desire for control and to at least see what happens so he can be on subtle equal footing with jack + ralph because he needs that personal secret power) and he taps at his little wooden stick thing against a tree to make a “rapid and infuriating tapping noise” just to like piss Ralph off a little bit just for fun.
also, as i said before but will go into more detail about now, Roger does not particularly like Jack. When Jack goes off all crying and embarrassed because no-one voted against Ralph, that includes Roger, and we should know by now from Roger’s character that this wasn’t some like bystander like not wanting to go against the grain or be the first person to agree to something kinda thing, because roger just isn’t like that. if he cared truly about jack being Chief, he could’ve easily convinced the other boys, but he wants the power over jack, and he wants to see him embarrassed because he doesn’t actually like him and he likes having that control and using it against people, or at least not in their favour.
We also see this come out even once the tribe has been fully like set up and formed, with him subtly poking fun at the whole ritual of it, mocking that “you could see who I was” when he has to give his name and stuff to be allowed in, and subtly re-establishing his own personal sense of control with the reminder that “you couldn’t stop me coming if I wanted”, because at his core he likes to subtly remind each of the own boys of his own capacity for control and violence. This is obviously backed up by how quick he is to use those rituals against other people once it allows HIM the control, with his little “Halt! Who goes there?” when Ralph tries to get up to the rock, clearly displaying how he’s taking umbrage with the fact that the rituals are used to make him do things he’s stubborn about, rather than the concept of the rituals themselves.
This foreshadowing and setting up of his character obviously culminates after his act of killing Piggy, so like obviously depends at which Roger era op was talking about, but hopefully I’ve shown how he truly only acts in his own self interest, and since Vincent only really tends to the littluns, which Roger already very much has control over and presumably therefore doesn’t find that interesting because they’re easy to intimidate anyway, I can’t see a world in which Roger would actually see any benefit to helping him, rather than the violence and control afforded by something like hunting instead, where it’s more public and he gets to be in a group that he can be better than.
anyway if you need any more evidence/an explanation of any of my points then lmk because i will have it but this is getting far too long already. i might add more to this later (particularly him and jack’s relationship because youre quite wrong and i don’t really like your tone and also ive got more to say about how it changes after killing Piggy but i don’t really know when this portrayal of vincent’s feelings is set so i’ll presume it’s pre-death for now because that makes most sense)

been a while since ive answered one of these so i guess we could do a little refresher ok 😸😸
my most justified reason is the instances where he physically hits john ((mainly 172 because that’s the one i remember best)) - it just felt unnecessary in the writing and seemed to me like a really weird response from a character that’s supposedly in a mostly healthy relationship?
He in no way NEEDS to hit john, as im pretty sure that just shaking him gently or even just like snapping his fingers over his face or something less abusive could’ve quite easily worked, or could’ve at least been explored or tested as a possibility, especially as they genuinely were not in a high-stress scenario in this moment, and there were no real time constraints,
he literally just went “sorry😬 you were starting another [statement] and i didn’t want to wait”, which i don’t really take to be a genuine apology with the casual annoyed tone he said it in if you listen to the episode ((feel free to to form your own opinion tho i just feel like my interpretations pretty valid here)) - he said it like he’d already assumed he was completely justified, and more just adding the little “sorry! 😜” just to be a little more polite, rather than because he’s genuinely apologetic for unnecessarily hitting his boyfriend.
And, while i don’t like to speculate or make points based on things that don’t have true canon evidence, the way it’s just brushed over does make it seem like this is a semi regular occurrence?
like john doesn’t seem at all surprised or disturbed in the way that i believe he should be if this was something completely out of character for the relationship. he just gives his soft little “wh-what…?” as he’s clearly so easily startled out of the statement that it just didn’t seem needed for martin to do that at all? and obviously i understand this (his resigned, unreacting reaction) could also be a result of his own like human identity issues and the whole thing that’s happening in the apocalypse ((and i am in no way saying he’s the perfect boyfriend/person either!!)) i just feel like it wouldn’t be completely out of left field to make the connection that this is far from the first time martin has resorted to hitting him, mainly due to the completely unnecessary nature of the event shown and the fact it is largely unaddressed.
((That is, however, largely speculation based so I’d understand if you don’t want to take that point onboard, and i feel like the isolated incidents we do hear are enough to support my point there anyway to be fair.))
(TL/DR: He hits john in a situation that i don’t feel explains or excuses his actions. His reaction too, unapologetic as it is, doesn’t redeem him for me)
i also, even before i had reason to truly justify it, I also just really disliked his character for more petty reasons.
He has that trope i really dislike where they’re clear kinnie bait (self esteem issues, poor/complicated relationship with mother, queer, etc) and therefore what could be genuine flaws and portrayed as so, it also makes it clear in the writing that his flaws are like somewhat delusional so that people who relate to him can have that like comfort by proxy.
This again as a point is largely petty and speculative and just my personal reason why i started disliking him if you were curious, rather than a reason i expect you to agree with.
I also just don’t like how weirdly hypocritical and conflicting his character was in s5, and this isn’t me misinterpreting the writing, because obviously i appreciate when a character is deliberately misleading or wrong in their opinion or whatever and it fits their character, but with martin it just kinda doesn’t feel like that? he regresses back to such a childish view of the world (monsters bad!! avatars evil!!!!), rather than doing any reflection on his avatar boyfriend, and it doesn’t even feel narratively interesting for me personally like it just makes me kinda frustrated that there’s no real conversation about this or resolution to be found there.
(There’s the whole conversation about “martin manipulated the fandom wowowow🥺🥺” but i just feel like that isn’t really true, rather we got a weird abrupt character change where there wasn’t THAT much of a character to begin with before and this also is me going on a bit of a tangent without truly thinking this idea through so I’ll leave it here but feel free to discard the idea rn)
also i related to him when i was about 12/13 (when i was a real loser) but then i grew up and so early martin reminds me of me when i was about 12 and at my worst but also like he didn’t even have any of the redeeming qualities i had back then and also now ((good at everything, good at art, intelligent, hilarious and funny, nice to be around, humble, transsexual, not blonde, not even ugly, ragebaiter online - just in case you wanted a few examples)) and instead he’s just kinda annoying and whiny? and s5 is, as we’ve already discussed, what i somewhat am i beginning to consider abusive the more i talk about it. also he’s in london and i lowkey hate londoners they ruined south england now everyone thinks im posh
