Grr. @sparky-is-spiders I get what you mean. But I got two reasons for not counting him as a true Jon liker. First of all, Elias is one of the people, if not THE person, who caused Jon the most anguish. And second of all, I see Elias’s appreciation of Jon as something inseparably tied with the goal he wanted to achieve through him. He doesn’t appreciate Jon as a person just because. He appreciates Jon’s personality because it goes perfectly with what he wanted to use Jon for. It is, in some way, conditional; Jon is appreciated as a person because he is a perfect tool, a ‘willing’ peon. He can just “wind him up and watch him go”; he just needs to give him a little nudge, and Jon will go exactly where he wants him, do exactly what he’s supposed to do. In the end, Jon the Archivist is just a glorified plaything. Does that make sense?
