What if Annabelle’s original plan about filling Martin with spiders was also Jonny’s original plan but then he changed his mind because he got more fitting or better idea?
I know it’s probably not true it just seems to me like interesting thought…

Before tomorrow’s episode probably disproves the “tapes are being replayed to someone” theory, here are some of my favorite takes about who might be listening to them.
The character/characters who survived
Jon who lost memory
The whole Archival staff from season one (because the tape were somehow send back in time or to alternative timeline)
The future Archivist learning this way about the history of his predecessor (Bonus points if they completely disregards all of them as season one Jon would)
We are the one listening to them (and it might end with breaking the forth wall and saying something like “here’s the record of what happened but luckily you don’t remember any of this”)
I sometimes see fanfic writers struggling with lonelyeyes divorces in their writing and how to make it work - how could they really get married before gay marriage was legalized. Are they only pretending and playing on marriage or something like that…?
And I have easy solution for that! Magnus archives is obviously taking place on parallel universe to ours since, you know, there exists all those supernatural creatures and monsters. On that account in the world where ghosts, vampires, fear entities and lots of other stuff exists… Is it that unbelievable that gay married could be legalized let’s say twenty years sooner? Like really what’s more plausible? Jonny never denied this therefore gay marriage in England let’s say since 90’ is cannon compliant. Therefore our favorite evil husbands are legally multidivorced case closed!
There is actual proof of that in canon that for some reason is never referenced!
Remember infamous homophobic vase, episode 38? It featured statement giver’s marriage certificate and it took place in 2012, so gay marriage was leagal in Magnus Archives UK at that time at least and probably even earlier.

When Peter and Elias share a bed they usually sleep back to back to each other. Elias always steals most of their blanket. Even if they have separate ones he somehow manages to steal Peter’s. It’s not even because Elias wants Peter to move closer to him or to cuddle him. It’s just who he is as a person…
Really sucks when you speed run a podcast to catch up only to find out that one of your favourite characters got questioned so hard he decides to die.
And then you basically don’t hear about your other favourite character until the end of the story just to find out he became the eye battery in perpetual knowledge-gasm.
The boat isn’t real. So is it dream logic boat? Was Jon all like “Ceaseless Watcher gaze upon this water and give me a means to cross it to save my boyfriend”?

She really liked Jurgen Leitner, thought he was cool and was sad about his dead.
She also thinks that Jonelias sounds like great ship.

Update about my relisten of Magnus archives with my girlfriend no one cares about.
We’re now stuck at episode 159 because she cannot get over Peter’s death. She quite disliked him when he first appeared… And today she spent the morning crying because she didn’t have any spoilers of his death and wasn’t expecting it.
I’m not really sure she’s ready for the fifth season? Yes she so much doesn’t know what’s coming.
Oh, she also ships now lonelyeyes more than jonelias so that one’s good. :)
But she hates Jon very passionately for some reason. :(
She also still thinks that Jurgen Leitner did nothing wrong. :((
(But everyday she misses the simpler times of sounds of brutal pipe murder.)
My girlfriend is almost caught up with the podcast. He was really suprised that they just really did the Eyepocalyse. But she passionately dislikes all the domain statements, jonmartin relationship and how omnious Jon is.
She’s really afraid to like any character because something might happen to them (she still hasn’t gotten over Peter.)
On another note she really likes Helen and wishes her the best.
She also really loves Gertrude and Gerry and still likes Jurgen Leitner.

Yes, I kinda couldn’t help myself and get into argument about really rather one of the less problematic shops in the fandom.
I mean it’s literally horror podcast where most of the characters are monsters who did some problematic decisions and killed people. From arguments of some people it seems like we are not allowed to like or ship anyone.
As long as you’re shipping consenting adults and are aware of possible unhealthy aspects of the ship and not glorifying it you should be allow to have fun? Why are people taking so personally what others are shipping?
Maybe Jonah Magnus knew that without being directly touched by all the fears he won’t the ideal vessel for the Eye, for all the knowledge, to be The King of the Ruined World.
His hubris lead him to believe that he’ll be able to control the power and still keep grasp of his own self.
It’s starting to get a bit repetitive. I mean - will it really be third season in a row ending up with Martin Kartin Blackwood playing some entity like a cheap whistle?

Haha, honestly on the first listen I thought that the statement was making argument for Martin. That it was about the fact that Jon might feel like he’s finally free of Jonah and his eyes on him. That he can do what he wants that he cannot try to control him anymore. But he will always be haunted by him, how can Jon be so sure that he’ll be better than Jonah would when get all the power? Will he really control the Eye or will the Eye control him…?
Of course that works only with my theory that Eye itself is not the thing controlling tape recorder and they are more like self aware sentient thing connected more to the Archivist than the Eye itself.
(Also Malcolm - the statement giver - looking for ideal date, judging all the people felt like referencing Jon wanting to judge people and decide if they are worthy to be avatar or should suffer.)
Anyway I know my first interpretation was wrong but I wanted to share it anyway.
The eye does not hate Jonah. The eye isnt solely obsessed with Jon because hes the Archivist and is just waiting to throw Jonah out. No, after 200 years of loyal service, after 200 years of throwing his ass in the fucking circle to keep the institute running do you think the eye would just discard him without a scrap of reward? No!
Yes, jon is right that he is meant to be the pupil because Jonah Built Jon To Be The Pupil! Jon is the Archive Of Fear! He was purposely marked by all the fears under Jonah’s preparations to become the pupil. I believe Jonah was very much intended to be the king of a ruined world and be the conductof of the pupil- forcing the ceasless watcher (conducted through Jon) to look upon the world THEY had created.
But, jon was in the wrong place. He wasnt in the range of the panopticon when he read the statement that brought the end. But the eye couldnt wait for its pupil to arrive, it needed one immediately for its transendance and chose jonah as the nearest conductor.
They swapped roles. Jonah became the ceasless watcher and jon his director which lead to him concentrating power onto those avatars.
Its not that the eye doesnt want Jonah anymore, he just isnt the right piece and has been destroyed under the strain of such power he wasnt prepared for, unlike jon.
The important question right now is when will we get statement of Jonah Magnus? Will it be the next episode? Because c'mon we will get it.
I mean it might even be double episode - first part describing his youth, relationship with associates we know from letters and his first failed ritual. Second part might then be focused more on his years as Elias watching Jon, finishing his ritual and his current state…
Either way there has to be his statement in the eighth remaining episodes… Right? RIGHT?!

I think that neither Jon nor Martin were right in their argument. There’s no point in resignation after a first failure but there’s also no point in unbreakable hopefulness…

I think that the current problem in tma fandom is that in lots of character analysis post is missing clear enough disclaimer that it’s only that person opinion.
I love reading analysis painting out all the hints that og Elias is implied to be privileged asshole as well as the analysis of him not knowing better because he was raised up like this and that it’s just his flaws which could be overcome if he was given a chance to live long enough for it
But that’s not the point. The important thing here is that no matter of your interpretation we simply don’t have enough information so we can say any of that for sure.
I mean there’s still so much argument about Jon and he’s literally the main character who is regularly telling us his inner thoughts.
So please just make clear disclaimer that it’s your interpretation only so you can point at it when people in comments will try to tell you that you’re wrong because their interpretation is different.
As much as I like genuine affection and feelings (even though well enough hidden) in my lonelyeyes I also like the idea that they are both way too detached from their humanity to still be able of love or anything similar to it. However there is just enough of humanity left in them that they still want to feel something - anything. So they are just mimicking relationship in attempt to awaken something resembling emotions. But it never works so they always part their ways. But they don’t have anything better so they just get together again…

Jonathan Sims - There’s plenty of reason since he’s the main character and we get to see so many of his flaws! He is definitely acting a bit like privileged jerk in the beginning being sure his encounter with supetnatural is more real than any of the statements and also being insecure because he’s not really qualified for the job he’s doing and taking it out on the others. Later he is invading privacy of the others and he also has serious trust issues and communication issues. And that one time he cannot fight himself and takes statement from that lady in that café? He should have been stronger, uh not to mention how much he struggles to keep his humanity in season five just how could anyone like him?
Martin Blackwood - His crush at Jon is unhealthy at times, he is sometimes ignoring trauma and struggles of others (like Tim’s) for Jon’s. Also he certainly has lot of vengeful tendencies in season five. So you’re not allowed to like him anymore…
Timothy Stoker - Idk, he’s kinda bisexual stereotype… I mean there was once implied he’s sleeping with one male and one female police officer at the same time. Like that plays into big are promiscuous stereotype. And don’t let me even start at how much is he focused on his own trauma and struggles in season three. Yeah, just stop liking him this instant.
Sasha James - We know really little about her but she doesn’t have problem to invade others people privacy and hack their computers to obtain information she wants even though it’s just someone’s birthday… So like pls don’t like her.
Melanie King - Even without the Slaughter mark she got anger issues. Not to mention her hypocrisy being all friendly with Helen literal people trapping monster and still hating Jon for struggling with his own inhumanity and the aspects of it. Nope, not likable at all.
Bassira Hussain - She was part of police force isn’t it crime enough? She doesn’t have or care to have enough insight into how much is police usually covering until it’s literally connected to her. And she doesn’t mind Daisy killing people. Don’t like her.
Alice “Daisy” Tonner - She is guilty for being part of the police force as well. Also she killed people. Don’t like her.
Og Elias Bouchard - There’s plenty of reasons everywhere right but it’s implied he’s privileged jerk don’t you dare to like him.
Jonah Magnus - Do I really have to comment this? There was said so many times he’s literally evil, c'mon, you are obviously not allowed to like this character.
Literally any avatar - They hurt someone at some point so yeah also don’t like them.
Feel free to add your favorite character and then come up with reasons why they are problematic and no one can like them! Or just add more flaws of already mentioned characters!
I know jonah is all about inhabiting stolen bodies with his eyes. But since the eyes are a part of the central nervous system… does that mean he isn’t just replacing his victims’ eyes, but their brains as well?
