Got any spare trans Jonah headcannons?

H-eye my dear anon! I’ve already shared few trans Jonah headcannons here.

But I have so many more trans Jonah thoughts. Actually you’ve unlocked the privilege of beholding my Jonah’s childhood and gender discovering headcannon!*

For the context I imagine Jonah is from some upper class family having a name, yes, but overall his family was quite poor since they were only getting money from properties they owned. Aristocracy owning companies or doing trade was frown upon by society so such a situation was not uncommon.

Jonah’s mother had trouble bearing children and only successful pregnancy was the one where she gave birth to Jonah and his twin brother. They did not get along very well because for the same interests and the same actions only one of them was punished for inappropriate behavior while other praised for curiosity.

Jonah wished many times to be able switch places with his brother though he was blaming jealousy of all the privileges a freedom his brother had and didn’t look into his feelings with much introspection. Why to think about unhappy reality and terrifying future of marriage when there was world of knowledge he could escape into.

And so he rather turned his curiosity from wandering around towards books. His mother didn’t always approve the chosen literature. She had lots of opinions of what should be Jonah’s interests. So Jonah had to sneak at night to borrow certain books which he was hiding in the covers of romance novels.

Jonah’s first encounter with death was when his father fell from a horse and died of haemorrhage. That was unfortunate but not such a big issue for the family since there was a male heir to inherit the estates. Till one winter when both Jonah and his brother fell terribly ill. After several feverish nights Jonah started to be getting better but his brother died.

We are in Georgian era here where woman cannot own property. Jonah’s mother did not have a best relationship with distant family of her husband and so she appeared to be in truly unfortunate situation but one solution was offering itself there. One of her children is dead. One of the still quite similarly looking twins…

And when Jonah sees himself for a first time with his freshly cut hair in the clothes of his dead brother and everything finally feels right. He feels right. How comes he never realized how handsome he can look why was he avoiding the mirrors so much before? New clothes, new role, new privileges and so much new to learn but he feels happy. For a while…

*Apologies I still have to do some research into how was the situation handled when the head of the family died and the son to inherit the fortune and estates was not old enough yet.
