So @nopaintjustpain and I are talking about a jonelias baby- what we’re going for is French, refined but not extravagant, gender neutral or w/ an opposite gender spelling option (bc Jon would insist on it)
(v/@nopaintjustpain) Unfortunately ruling out Nikki because we don’t want to give Jon more Nicola trauma, Eden wins! But do we want to include Valerie as part of the Full Baptismal Name or not? (Either way, the kiddo will go by Eden.)
-Valerie Eden Bouchard -Eden Valerie Bouchard -Eden Bouchard (no middle name) -Suggest a middle name in the comments! Oh also we’re ruling out any names of Jon’s old friends, because Elias would die of embarrassment before he let Jon name their child after any of them
Martin is very internally in-tune and good at identifying exactly what he’s feeling and why. But he’s cagey with that information, and or at the very least, the truth/meat of those feelings. He’ll tell you, but he’ll leave the deeper meaning out, cards always close to his chest until he knows what you’re planning on doing with it. He could write a think piece on exactly what makes him tick, and he is absolutely not going to show it to you. You’ll get vulnerable Martin Blackwood, though, easy! He’ll have a deep heart to heart any day! You’ll just leave with next to nothing on him.
Meanwhile, Jon has absolutely no idea what any of his emotions mean or where they came from, but he also can’t stop himself from feeling them constantly all the time, and with no words for them, they’re just leaking all over the place. but he’s incapable of vocalizing anything, so he expresses instead through stubborn and fast actions with little to no thought or logic behind them, operating only on gut feeling, immediate reaction, and high emotionally charged choices when the chips are down. If you tried to have a heart to heart with Jon he would explode.
Should I make a silly rp blog where I pretend to be a beleaguered administrator at the Magnus Institute.
Like, there’s flesh-eating worms in the basement or whatever but that’s not my problem, my office is on the second floor and I’m putting out the much more urgent fire of our newfangled payroll system glitching out and failing to produce everyone’s tax documents
I’m constantly this 👌 close to crashing out and the only thing holding my brain cells together is the fact that Bouchard does his own scheduling (who ENJOYS scheduling that much? At executive level?? I’m glad he does his own calendar so I don’t have to, but I still think he’s a psycho.)

Okay fine I’ll do it but all 90 of you people who gave this notes have to follow it
“I can’t say it,” Elias admits in a whisper. “I’m trying, but I can’t.” Jon shifts his weight from foot to foot. “Do you want me to…?” “…Please.” Deep breath. “Elias… what are you afraid of?”
Original Jonah Magnus being crazy attractive is something I like to entertain myself with. Like, the institute employees dropping “oooh I wanna fuck Jonah Magnus so bad” every now and then, half-joking, so most just think it’s an ongoing gag, but Elias has The Eye and knows some of them are dead serious. Some are saying that to Elias himself. “Haha is there any artefact in the storage that sends you back in time, I wanna fuck Jonah Magnus”. Elias going through his employees’ thoughs and getting jumpscared by a graphic image of his original self sucking dick.

I don’t dwell enough on the fact that Elias is so very close to being my favorite kind of villain: the one who just wants to see how much he can get away with until even he’s almost sick of it and he just wants to see if anyone can stop him
He can’t stop getting away with shit, he can’t stop escalating, because then he’d never really know, would he? He’d never know if he really was good enough to win. Good enough to have everything he ever wanted and more. And no matter how much it costs him he absolutely cannot do less than the most at all times, because not knowing if he could is worse than the consequences of succeeding
I’m convinced this is why Jonah sounds so chill about dying when the fear of death has been his motivation all along: he’s more Beholding than he ever admitted to himself. He knows now. He knows exactly how powerful he could become, exactly how much shit he could get away with, and exactly what it would take to stop him.
I’ve never seen it being discussed but mag199 is one of the most important episodes in the show and is crucial for understanding Jon’s character and his choices.
Characters here need to make a choice and everyone gives their take on situation. Except for Jon. The first people to talk are everyone present in the room and Jon is the LAST person who says something here.
And when he says that they actually have more options, his words immediately get dismissed by Melanie and Martin. Through the whole conversation the only words Jon gets to say are some unnecessary corrections and weak protests. But he never gets to say his piece fully.
Again, the person who’s the only one able to change world back, is the last one who gets a word to say.
From Jon’s POV, here he is, again, viewed only as a tool. Here he is, again, not the one to actually decide what to do with the world. He is, again, forced to do something he doesn’t want and his own will does not matter.
And this is crucial for his actions in mag200. He never wanted the option everyone else agreed on, and still he is expected to follow the path that was carved out for him. He never chose to be marked by the Web, he never chose to end the world. And he didn’t want to let the fears free. This choice was made for him.
But still, for the first time HE is the one holding all the cards now and finally, FINALLY be the only one to decide how to play them.
Thoughts on Jarchivist designs?? I’ve been drawing him with thick straight hair so far but I love everyone’s wavy/curly designs so much and I can’t decide fkdkskjahd
2 of my besties voted for the middle so that one gets like 4 extra votes because I love and respect my friends’ opinions extra hard
Which hair texture should I start drawing consistently

whatever you do, don’t imagine jon and tim smoking together when they were both new to the institute, working in research. don’t imagine jon quitting and trying to get tim to do the same. don’t imagine jon watching tim spiral into addiction after they find out about sasha, and not being able to stop him because he drove tim away through his paranoia. don’t imagine tim catching jon smoking while they’re researching the circus and going off on him about how much of a fucking hypocrite he is. and especially don’t imagine the two of them wordlessly sharing a cigarette the night before the unknowing.

Elias blames himself for what happens next.
[Title from forwards beckon rebound by Adrianne Lenker]
I know he’s kind of a polarizing character, but I have to say, Elias Bouchard truly is Iconic. When you hear the twist of “the boring middle manager was actually secretly an evil eldritch monster the whole time!” you sort of assume that the boring middle manager persona was just a facade, but no, he really does seem to just enjoy dull administrative work. He’s both exactly as boring as he seems on the surface and profoundly fucked up in ways you couldn’t imagine. He’s practically omniscient and playing 4-D chess with everyone, but he responds to even slight hiccups in his elaborate scheme with acts of extreme violence. He beats an old man to death with a metal pipe and when someone brings it up later he goes, “Yeah I may have overreacted there.” His employees are constantly trying to murder him. He broke out of prison just so he could give a dramatic monologue. He had a weird gay thing going on with seemingly every man he met in the past 200 years. He loves scheduling.
fuck dude jon really did wake up one morning and go I’m gonna love martin k blackwood now. he chose to do that shit. he went okay so now I’m deciding to love you, which means I love your sweet caring side and your prickly rude side, your quiet dignity and your biting sarcasm, your brutal honesty and your boundless loyalty. jon really said I’m gonna love everything about martin on purpose. supremely iconic and exactly what martin deserves
“I thought you might be lost.” is one of the most delightfully romantic things Jon ever says to Martin.
It’s so devoid of blame, of derision. A truly neutral statement, soft, no touch of sarcasm, no hint of cruelty. A gentle hand reached out to pull him from the depths of the lonely.
Such an unusual phrase for Jon, especially at that time. There’s no definitives, it’s entirely open to correction, open to being wrong. ‘I thought’ not I knew. It comes from Jon’s perspective, he holds himself out to rejection, something that’s hard to do at the best of times.
'you might be lost’, not you were, not you are. He respects that this may well have been a conscious choice, that Martin really could have chosen to abandon him, preferring the lonely to the lack of certainty in their relationship. But it retains the softness and love, the worry and care. He was worried that Martin might not be able to find his way back, but not willing to drag him out of a place he might have chosen to be.
And that’s not even mentioning the softness with which he says it. In an intense moment of great urgency and importance he’s able to drop his fear, stress, and anger, in an attempt to reach the man he loves.
It’s such an elegant moment of love; in a second Jon is willing to let go of the gravity of the situation and put all of his being into connecting with Martin, and when it comes down to it, it works.
“Joan, dear, I know you’re going through a lot right now, but you can’t stalk your co-workers.”
“Élise, I’m not ‘stalking’ them—”
“—Tina caught you going through her mail. That’s a crime. You’re lucky she didn’t report you. The way she’s been complaining to me, she just might if you don’t knock it off.”
“I’m sure she was just confused,” Joan grumbles, shooting Élise a sidelong glare. You’re next, she thinks.
The Head of the Institute sweeps her way across the grand entry hall alongside Joan, the click of her heels on the tile and the billow of her elegant shawl behind her lending a certain air of command to her presence. Being next to her always made Joan feel shabby in comparison, despite the neat lines of her own pressed slacks and button up, the shine of her oxfords. It’s worse since Joan started letting her appearance go, too focused on getting to the bottom of this mystery (and terrified of what she’ll find) to bother with such trivial things as ironing her clothes and cutting her hair.
She pauses at the top of the stairs to the Archives when Élise catches her arm, a gentle but inexorable pressure turning her to face the older woman, who cocks an imperious, perfectly manicured eyebrow at her.
“I can’t keep turning a blind eye. Next time someone complains to me, I will have to discipline you.”
Then, strangely, her grip softens, almost a caress. She reaches up and adjusts Joan’s suspender strap. Such a proprietary touch. It makes her shudder, to be so… looked at by those curious, hooded grey eyes.
“I don’t want to have to do that to you, but I hope you know it’s for your own good. Disgruntled employees do tend to go to higher powers when they don’t see the proper actions being taken. I’d rather we handle this little workplace disagreement in-house than take it to the authorities. So let’s rein it in a bit, hm?”
“Fine,” Joan grits out. She pulls herself free and turns down the stairs with a huff. If her face is a bit warm after that encounter, she blows past the bullpen fast enough that her assistants don’t have time even to notice, let alone comment.
It’s not like any of them besides Marja are on speaking terms with her, anyway.
