Summary:
Jon barely manages to convince the paramedics and the ECDC not to keep him in the hospital overnight, by proving that he can stand and walk and the blood transfusion they gave him isn’t having any adverse effects. Tim is grateful that they finally, reluctantly let Jon go. No one wants to spend any more time in the hospital after their too-long period in quarantine. And Tim can’t just leave without Jon. He refuses to let Jon — or either of the others — out of his sight.
Everything happened while he wasn’t here. It’s foolish of him to think that his being present will somehow prevent it happening again: not least because there is no ‘again’. The ordeal is over. Prentiss is dead and her body is being burned as they speak. But instinct is a funny thing.
People tend to forget Betas have them too. Instincts, that is. Most Beta urges are focused towards pack. Betas are the balancing force in any pack dynamic. The mediators. Tim has never occupied that role well. He was always atypically Alpha-like, prone to posturing and braggadocio. And, when all his jokes and silly little bits are stripped away by a serious moment like this one, he can be… intense . Frustration, sadness, worry, fear — he tends to skip over those emotions and go straight to a burning, jaw-clenching, low, snarling sort of anger. It’s the easier thing to feel, and to express.
Trauma will do that to a person.
