‪#Inktober Day 19: When Clark’s party located the Shoshone nation, Sacagawea was rejoiced to see her childhood friend Jumping Fish, who‘d been kidnapped by the Hidatsa at the same time as her. She also discovered that Cameahwait, now the chief of the tribe, was her older brother.‬

Clark recounted the emotional family reunion, “she came into the tent, sat down, and was beginning to interpret, when in the person of Cameahwait she recognised her brother: she instantly jumped up, and ran and embraced him, throwing over him her blanket and weeping profusely.”

This was perhaps the most fortunate coincidence for the Expedition. With Sacagawea’s help, captains were able to earn the trust of Shoshonis, who had been still skeptical up to this point, and barter much needed horses from them.
