s3 helen, still adjusting to her existence, just following melanie around, and when she asks her about it she says “helen feels better around you. being helen hurts less around you.” and the spiral hates that because of how honest it is, so it slowly starts removing more and more aspects of helen. that’s why she acts so different in s5.
