i mean, they’re both objectively terrible people, but there’s complexity to their terribleness. there’s also the aspect of daisy probably viewing herself as morally superior to elias, whereas elias knows everything daisy’s done and probably considers them very similar in nature. added onto that is the theme of fate and control present in the song; how much free will did either of them really have at any point? are actions taken more or less evil based on wether you had a choice or not, if the outcome is the same? how much does intent or remorse really matter?
