This always kills me so bad for obvious reasons. “Oh, he got you” like don’t tell me you don’t know what he means by that!! not “he got the archivist” or “he got what he wanted from you” but he got YOU. And to be fair he literally did have him god bless
And also why did they even make the watcher’s call a thing. First of all it isn’t even ever called that anywhere (as far as I know) it’s just listed as that on the wiki (but I’m not complaining because of course I think it’s apt). But more importantly WHY did they give us something so juicy just to NEVER USE IT AGAIN…a WASTE of one of the top ten sexiest je moments. “Suffice it to say I called you” still makes me scream !!
Why not use s5’s setup to make jonah watcher’s call jon one more time to lead him back to the panopticon? It would’ve been so tasty…imagine getting led into the mouth of the beast by your eldritch terror boyfriend and the only way to get through is to trust in the magic eye power connection said boyfriend had with his evil boss…

i wish s5 had been so much more je-wise and it kills me because i know it couldve been….like ok we’re gonna end s4 on such a high note (possibly a delusional take but what’s better than this manipulating mansplaining and manwhoring) but then elias isn’t even gonna hover ominously over the narrative? like sure they mention him a couple of times because obviously they’re on their way to kill him but most of the time it’s just jm horrorpocalypse roadtripping. and what they DID give us was pretty interesting actually! all the anger jon has towards elias, all the times he corrects people and says he’s not elias he’s jonah magnus but stumbling when he needs to say “i was the catalyst…elias–jonah magnus used me”, telling martin he’s going to confront him even though he doesn’t know if he’s capable of it (but he won’t hesitate!) but showing up to the panopticon just for martin to immediately clock him as envious instead of terrified…whew it really could’ve been something i swear
‘the eye can’t see inside itself’ being the reason why jon couldn’t sense elias throughout most of s5 is a valid one considering elias had become the eye’s “pupil” at that point but there’s also no reason why elias couldn’t have been looking at jon the whole time. like senseless and overloaded with the infinite flood of knowledge is all well and sexy but you expect me to believe that even though all that he wouldn’t still be looking at his archivist? on a subconscious level even i just believe that he would’ve turned his gaze to the one person that had his attention all this time. and jon should’ve felt the heavy weight of his gaze (if not the watcher’s call itself) all the way up to the panopticon!! he said the time of OUR victory is here!! he said you’ll get used to in the world that WE have made!! they made themselves for each other!!!!
i’ve been slowly trying to compile like…a jonelias greatest hits comp but i keep getting distracted because i could literally spend hours just going over a handful of episodes

and till this day sometimes i cry - T, s5 prediction fic (from back when it was still airing) where martin and jon get split up at the panopticon and jonah has charged conversations with the both of them <3 honestly a personal fav of mine because i reaaaaaally wanted jon to be swayed if even a little bit when he finally confronted jonah after mag160
a heart is beating, then is done - E, vampire au where elias has turned jon, but jon refuses to feed on living people’s blood, so in typical elias fashion he takes matters into his own hands. lots of descriptions of blood so watch out (or enjoy)
by god an underrated s1 jonelias moment. who else is out here bitching to their boss and then following it up with shit like “I’ll be more lovely”…normal things to say for sure
s5 had very few JE moments (i froth at the mouth thinking about what could have been) but MAN the fact that they did a statement together?!??!?! even though jonah was overloaded by the eye?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?! still rocks me to my CORE.
no literally! if jonny sims didn’t want me to believe that there was a black thread of fate connecting jon and elias then why would he give us such delicious breadcrumbs like that one…s5 jonelias really just makes me sooo wistful because the bones of a true je ending were there and i’ll stand by that.
there’s a couple different ways that i think it could’ve gone but i know deep in my heart that what i really wanted was for them to pull a hannigram and fall off the cliff together…and i won’t even say that this is an implausible ending because they always made it clear that tma wouldn’t really have a happy ending (esp after jon started the apocalypse and all) and leading up to s5 they made it clear that jon was close to spiraling out of control with his statement-addiction (helped by his ties to the web) and also playing heavily into elias’ manipulations (like in mag158…elias was literally SO smug in that episode and jon was so compliant. maybe just because he wanted to save martin but honestly if i heard my evil boss be like …my you have grown. a masterpiece, isn’t it? i wouldnt just be like yeah. it is) (that’s not true i probably would. if i were gay for my evil boss)
in the same vein as the last post i also really want a fic that’s like…pre-slash jonelias where jon starts spying on georgie or one of the archive assistants and accidentally stumbles on them having sex and decides to very normally be a creepy voyeur about it because 1. he’s fascinated by the mechanics of sex something he apparently has very little experience in and 2. he finds it very easy to distance himself from the unsettling part of himself that would so easily intrude on another person’s privacy, not necessarily because he recognizes it as conducive to his eye alignment but because of this ingrained self-identity of bookish academic that he has where he doesn’t view himself as someone who’s capable of such active participation but who IS interested in the full breadth of human experience
and of course elias is there to show him that he actually is capable of it. having sex that is.
every season of jonelias really has something new and shiny that gives it a particular flavor…the pre-canon longing and professional interest, the s1 office romance <3/”fine i’ll be more lovely”, the s2 paranoid and crazy and I NEED TO KNOW, ELIAS phase, the s3 tense but inexorable connection (my evil boss who murdered a guy is still the only one I can run to and no we can’t kill him yet!!), the s4 post-coma pre-160 longing/betrayal/growing into monsterdom/suffice it to say I called you, the s5 Knowing and Eye Opening where all bets are off and the dynamic has heavily shifted into jon’s favor…
ok im not like a jm anti or anything but i did know it was canon going in and apparently i found it so implausible at the beginning that i was like i hope jon is repressing some memories. that was the only thing i could think of to explain it
jonelias really is the crazy guy ship like it really is a conspiracy. it makes so much sense but no one will acknowledge it. and then people went around misinterpreting it sooo badly like it made me feel insane
i think its so funny how jm fans won with 159 but for je fans its all about 158. because sure the canon interpretation of “jon leapt into the lonely no preparations and ignoring all of elias’ red flags because he wanted to save martin so badly” is true but like… i think it speaks to some unspoken connection between him and elias that he sees such a blatant trap and decides to not even think about the threat that elias has CONSTANTLY posed just to walk right into his manipulations. like hold me back from screenshotting their whole last conversation because it’s all like
elias: (something ominous that betrays both his pride in jon and also a surprising nonchalance over what should be a very threatening situation for him)
it’s important to me that elias looks reasonably physically younger than peter like not so much that it’s questionable really but enough to raise an eyebrow
