I think Jon is prey-coded in the way a small predator is. I don’t really know how to explain this. He’s anxious. There’s bigger predators out there and they’d eat him just as easily as they’d eat any other prey. But he’s hungry. And he has teeth. He’s not at the top of the food chain but he’s all too aware that he isn’t at the bottom, either. And sometimes, when he’s lucky, he’ll catch something bigger and meaner off guard, when it wasn’t expecting it, when it was weak, and suddenly his position in the food chain seems a lot more fluid.
