They are being given the opportunity to show a version of their child self the kindness and affection they desperately craved but never had. They will likely never experience it themselves. This is the person they hate the most. This is them, the person who will make every stupid, awful decision they made in their own time. The incompetent prick who can’t even hold himself together enough to act like an adult at work. Having the gall to act small and scared and pathetic like he’s suffered a fraction if the pain he (they) cause others. Like he has the right. This is a person who doesn’t understand why they hate him except that he has never been enough, and the adults in his life have rarely liked him. He’s so vulnerable right now. Would be so easy to hurt and the Archivist can smell his simple, childish fear. Mr. Spider a fresh, raw wound they could so easily sink their teeth into.
