Journal of Dr Samuel Webber
Appearance:
A pocket sized notebook hardback (11cmx7.5cm). Blank pages covered in filth and water damage with the first 40 pages having handwritten entries in blue ink. The quality of the handwriting decreases from the first to last entry.
The covers of the book are covered in dead roots that have no explicit origin they emerge from under the spine, wrap around the cover and burrow under the edges of the endpapers and through holes in the cover
Content:
The book contains entries by Dr Webber about his experience hiding in an abandoned church garden. Over the course of the night his wounds from the thicket get worse and he suffers from some type of infection.
The night lasts far longer than it should and he starts to hear his deceased wife whisper to him as he undergoes some arboreal transformation. It concludes with him rejoicing about becoming a tree in the secret garden he shares with his wife.
Abnormality:
The book emits an aroma that has been described as sickly sweet, almost like something rotting. It will only be smelt by one person in its proximity and they will feel compelled to hold the book.
Allowing this so far has always resulted in an infection similar to the one described in the journal. Full list of symptoms can be found in journal transcript.
Treatment with antibiotics and the removal of infected tissue in early stages has so far proved successful in stopping the infection.
Acquisition:
This book was discovered in a half buried water damaged briefcase, that was penetrated by mouldy roots. The briefcase also contained Dr Webber’s personal items as mentioned in this apparent grief journal he was issued.
Dr Samuel Webber was a suspect in the case of his wife’s homicide on the 03/04/2009.
Classification:
A infection that turns you in to a rotten tree is very much of the classification of the crawling rot. The corrupted love described in the journal entries is a key aspect of its behaviour.
It will be stored in the appropriate wing. Testing will require multiple personnel as well as appropriate medical treatment on standby in case of unwanted infection.
