ambition is a disease on the humanoid kind, the downfall of most people usually has the root cause of ambition. Elias bouchard? He was just, too ambitious. Tim? Too ambitious. Jon? Too ambitious. And I can here you (the void) saying, “but how was Jon or Tim or blah-blah-blah ambitious?” well: Tim, on a revenge fueled path began his journey of ambition, learning dying in the sakes of it. Because ambition means a lot of things, and for him it was a goal, a dream. Jon had always been ambitious, but his ambition was in wanting to save the others, a noble and worthless thing in the end but ambition is hard to ignore. Elias, is, obvious…in my opinion. But I think without ambition, humans are honestly quite worthless, but with ambition, we’re doomed to fail. Showcased well in Tma (I’m just going crazy.)

homunculus-argument:

Nothing slapped my shit back into place like someone pointing out that the “genius gifted child with so much potential who got burnout and mental illness” is just the nerd equivalent to the jock “could have been a pro at sportsball if it wasn’t for the injury”.

I swear to god. This is jontim.

S1 jon sims walks in a bar, sees an evil freak monster made of not human and goes “well I don’t believe in that shit” and exits

s4 jon sims walks in a bar with three lesbians flanking him, two of them glaring at him like he’s the devil and he goes up to the evil freak monster and orders a whiskey

thearchivtheantichrist:

Literally anything couldve changed the trajectory of Tma, but I think the thing that fucks me up the most, is the fact that I’d argue a lot of the reason Jon even ends up in that precarious place between avatar and human (”how much of you is left”) is because after all that time nobody, not even martin treated him like a human. Jon tried his damnedest to help, and persevere, and he did what humans do to survive, make bad choices. And everyone invalidates that. His needs, like statements, are viewed of that like a dog needing to be taken on a walk. His acknowledgments on his capabilities are never about him, and only the powers, the things he can take and steal and do, and martin pushes him to use the powers and yet is so shocked when Jon is more horrified with himself than when he started.

^ your so right I’m also dead if Martin has no haters, but obviously its my personal bias along with hating basira and Melanie, I just feel like the sheer disrespect dished out to Jon was never reciprocated, which makes it worse for me because Jon was either to tired of it to fight or genuinely believed this treatment was deserved. And nobody, not even Martin, finds it in them to apologize to Jon about anything, and you could argue “well, Martin was with Peter for—” that was his willing choice, its not like it was Elias (whom he resisted fairly well already) so any damages he did I think he should have to apologize for, because Jon already paid his penance Imo,,

The way you spell Jon hurts my soul. Love the blog though you are my favorite person in the fandom

martinblackwoodhater:

that’s literally how it’s spelled in the transcripts is it not? 😨 swear it’s john

Its a wide “headcanon” its spelt Jon, as the VA Jonathan Sims also went by Jon—now more commonly, Jonny—and wanted a clear distinction between him and the character, but most adapted to saying/spelling it as Jon! At least, that’s my recollection, i’m very likely wrong.

hating on martin Blackwood/jmart kinda uhhh don’t like don’t read

I really wish I was here in the prime time of TMA because maybe then I’d understand the Jmart hype but it really seems like fandom shoved the two together, specifically to glorify the relationship, and then it so happened that jonny and Alex spun a wheel that landed on jmart and decided “haha sure” like THEYRE SO GOOD AT WRITING AND IM SUCH A HATER ITS HORRIBLE OF ME but I can’t help it because not only did the fandom obsess over them, literally can hardly see other ships at all since nobody gaf, but the actual thing felt so rushed:// like I don’t like reading jmart fanfiction, but most FANFICTION that’s like 2k words has a better slowburn than the whole ass podcast and I GET that that’s the point I’m just hating because it isn’t for me

jontimhelensasha. please hear me out.

Good News: I’ve played a bit of “Slay The Princess” and loved it.

Embarrassing News: I trusted the narrator too much because I was so excited that Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Institute was giving me a task.

every time I play slay the princess I inevitably end up crumbling and killing her no questions asked because he DID tell me to,,,,

Can someone explain all of tmagp to me because I want to get into it again but its like, overwhelmingly daunting and I’m pretty sure Chester isn’t even there anymore which was the Mann reason I kept listening for a while

…chester’s still there.

ANYWAYS basically it takes place in an alternate universe to TMA with the Office of Incident Report and Assessment, following mainly Sam and Alice, but also Celia and Gwen and a little bit of Colin and Lena but not as much as I wish it did. Big scary stuff, sorting cases (statements), bouchards being terrible at their jobs, very fun. also multiverse shenanagins.

I know about the main plot, the issue was I dropped off it sometime around the first hiatus and haven’t been able to pick it up again because there’s a lot now.

“on god’s green earth” is way too fun to say even when you don’t believe in god and know most of it is blue, actually

On MY 70-ish% blue earth.

when I say “I’m so sick of it all” and suddenly it all starts frowning and giving me sad eyes while I cough and sputter (sick) (of It All)

thinking about that one time I was listening to TMAGP and they kept fucking saying bulbous (least favourite word) so I started thinking of pregnancy making someone bloated and bulbous and then it spiraled into (”what if the corruption spread by pregnancy and they burrow under your skin and fester and lay and you grow and your bones and meat feel heavier with the weight of the child you carry and while your eyes and fat sag your youth feeds and Explodes out, feeding on you and going to impregnate a new mother”) and I literally fucking called that one episode actually.

beholdingstranger:

Nooooo Sam you’re too under-levelled to compel an archivist!!!!!!!!

i genuinely can’t get into TMAGP right now because I’m still hooked on jon but every single post I see about them mentioning him has me barking, growling, writhing in my iron cage while foam pools below me from my mouth btw

Bet.

Actually I’m writing a polychives fic rn

Technically contains a lot of jontim at the moment cause Martin has been stuck in his apartment for the best part of the fic (dw I’m getting him out in the next couple of chapters)

Check it out if you’re in the mood

I’ve actually been stalking it,,, very huge fan of yours now… I’m top 5 polyarchives shipper and I’m top 3 jontim shipper. I was literally screaming to my whole friendgroup (never even heard of tma) about ur fanfic

sometimes it feels like somewhere deep inside me, like, festers memory and dreams. You know? I try to pin them down, but I can’t even hear beyond the screams,,, and all I recall with clarity is sunshine, and it’s merry song, dude..what are these thoughts so vague and dark beyond????

hi ant are you okay

hey I’m great are you and your wife still together

cer-pencil:

i wonder if people can tell I like Jonathan sims

storm-and-starlight:

the number of people who are so absolutely convinced that the errorchivist is Jon… I mean… I would be genuinely surprised (in a bad way!) if Jonny brings back Jon or Martin in any meaningful way. Part of the impact (the really really good impact! on both an emotional and narrative level!) of their ending is that it’s extremely ambiguous, and extremely final, and bringing them back would, well, ruin that.

(also, while I am FASCINATED to find out what’s going on with Chester and Norris, I don’t think they’re Jon and Martin. I’ve already made a post about how the Web used Jon’s voice, specifically his voice, as part of its plan, and I think Fr3-d1 just straight up stole it somehow.)

I can imagine a scenario in which they can successfully bring Jon and Martin back, and personally I think it would still be meaningful, perhaps a little more common since most things have the main character live, but I think there are certainly good ways out there to bring them back, but I doubt they would. Considering most evidence points against it

Out of curiosity, how do you think they could bring Jon and Martin back? Because I genuinely cannot think of a way to do it that preserves the, like, the fundamental tragedy (which, to be clear, is the part I enjoy) of their ending

I think since you’re you, I don’t believe there would be a way to give them a second chance that’s as good as the first for you, but the one Idea I had as a non-writer, was that maybe they’d bring them back but very swiftly ‘kill’ them off again in a way that shows their destiny was already as it was supposed to be, like seeing your favourite characters come back only to watch them whisked away by the narrative again because they never had a chance. That’d be interesting to me, and wouldn’t interupt the plot for me, but I don’t personally know how to write it in or anything.

Silksong, an edit.

talesfromnatea:

The problem with playing as a character I know is extremely capable is that I feel I am dishonouring her when I keep dying to random minibosses

ive decided to headcanon she’s just the most amazing girlfailure. yes I did have to do several bosses 40+ times, no its not my fault, I’m just being ACCURATE….!!!

the-final-sif:

Hornet silksong is one of the single funniest protagonist ever. In no small part because she isn’t a silent protagonist at all. She’s in a nightmare apocalypse, but she was born and raised in one of those. She’s live most her life in a graveyard. This nightmare apocalypse is way nicer than the one she came from. She got kidnapped, seriously weakened/injured, and is in poor health. She decides “well if they kidnapped me I guess it’s important and I should check it out”. She tells people a zombie apocalypse is happening as one might comment on the weather. This is very normal for her. Her idea of regaining her strength is throwing herself at dangerous situations until she’s better. She has never heard of “taking a nap” in her life. She is so willing to run errands for other people, but do not imply she is a good person, this is a “tactical advantage”.

she’s also so greedy and I love that for her (for me) “hey do this thing for me” “nuh uh” “but there’s an…unspecified reward if you doooo…” “okay I’m listening.”

guys can we just imagine all of tma s4 and s5 but with jonmartim. like things would be so much cooler…like no offence but I think the apocalypse would really put things into perspective for Tim, I think in Mag 195 - 200 Tim would’ve been able to be kept on Jon-Watch, I want this fanfic to exist. and they can all kiss. As a treat.

hyperfixated on malevolent so hard that john doe has started narrating my thoughts🔥

Jonathan sims has narrated my thoughts for the past year or so. He’s not leaving and I haven’t asked him to.

justatiredghost:

I can’t even imagine how difficult it is for John to hold a conversation in s5. He’s being bombarded with all this information, witnessing what the world has become, no wonder it’s hard for him to pick out the things he shouldn’t say out loud and why it’s so hard for him to put his thoughts into words. Sometimes Martin will say something, like mentioning Angela, and they’re having a really important conversation, but suddenly he has all this information on where Angela is and what she’s up to and it’s no wonder he loses his train of thought. I wonder if there was a time in the beginning, right after the world ended, where he had so much trouble saying anything at all because he’s afraid everything in his head will just start pouring out.

i also feel like this could’ve been a huge point of contention between Martin and Jon had S5 been more about exploring dynamics, because it really highlights how different Jon and Martin are in certain aspects, and how each of them are ‘rejecting’ their Avatarhood. Martin is begging for knowledge for a lot of S5, interaction, clear answers he thinks only the Eye can give, and in doing so is mostly pushing away his Loneliness, searching. Jon doesn’t want to Force the burden of knowledge, all of the knowledge, on someone else. In that he pushes Martin away, though. I find it a little interesting.

silksong is so tma web

can we make slaughter avatars x web avatars ship name be silksong

And tomorrow will be a new day, the world spins, and the tides still brush against the shore, and dawn will come and dusk will leave and one day it’ll feel so many days ago that you won’t care anymore, suddenly dusk is over and despite feeling like the last dawn was so long ago, you can’t even remember why you felt that.

And sometimes the world feels like it stops spinning, and that’s okay,

and sometimes dawn is so far away, and that’s okay,

And sometimes the sea is calm and you are not, and that’s okay

Sometimes it’s just a day away, and that’s okay.

ceaseless-tosser:

so maybe im just a sociopath but the way people are polarized about the burning building thing always baffled me.

Like Jon told him where they were going, Martin expressed why he didn’t want to go, Jon gave Martin the option not to go, Martin insisted that it was Jon’s choice, Jon made a choice.

I can KINDA see how this could be framed as a bad moment for them? Like i guess Martin was making it Jon’s responsibility in the hopes he’d pick him over Jude, and was disappointed when he didnt. and I GUESS it speaks to Jon’s arrogance that he assumed Martin giving him that decision meant that he was no longer harmed by it.

But also like. on the face of things– this was the only time they actually communicated rationally? Like they both said what they wanted, and made a decision of what to do. Just because it was worse on Martin than Jon realized or Martin was insensitive about burn scars isn’t actually the end of the world.

Maybe so far as making it work in the literal hell dimension that was actually a productive conversation.

…anyway did anyone else notice that Martin got lost in the lonely like. immediately after. what was up with that

i really feel like people in the tma fandom sometimes lose their grip between fanfiction and source, because I do like when that situation is exaggerated in fanfiction, its great angst potential, but I reality its their best moment like, all of the apocalypse. The rest of s5 is just argument after argument and pushing Jon and Jon being avoidant in response and perceptions are so skewed sometimes!! Like yes its great to have in fanfiction, toxic doomed yaoi for the win, but not EVERYTHING is solely good or solely bad with them

buonsai:

I think the biggest issue I’m having with Protocol v.s. Archive is the difference in scale. In Archives, we start with just Jon reading statements to us. Through his own ramblings and footnotes and addendums (and the statements themselves of course), we start piecing together a story. Then, Martin starts popping up. Over time we learn about him, and eventually Sasha, Tim, and so on. Slowly but efficiently we are introduced to and bond with an entire cast of characters. It started from one and grew and grew and grew. In Protocol, we start off in a government building. There’s a whole cast INSTANTLY! Some who have bonded already and others are new, some have more history than others. We aren’t eased into a dusty wooden library with The Head Archivist talking to himself, we’re listening to a group of underpaid, overworked government workers bantering. Instantly we start off with just, more. I’m not going to get into spoiler territory, but those caught up know how vast the scale has become in terms of plot and setting. It feels like we’re uncovering more and more, but not really earning anything. I don’t think Protocol is bad, and I’m still keeping up with every episode, but it personally hasn’t felt nearly as fulfilling as Archives has. It’s been fun, sure, but not in the ways I sought in Archives

this is actually a lot of the reason its extremely hard for me to get back into malevolent or Protocol, off the bat there’s a whole new system (my favorite, I loooveer the filing system) and a new cast and the entire cast is THERE and talking, like, all of the time, and it feels like its spoonfeeding us information from a BUCKET and not the spoon I was prepared for

Martin Blackwood hate on Tumblr is so crazy to me man. Of course he’s screwed up, and so is Jon. The whole point is that he is a nuanced character who has been through hell and back. There is no need to actively mess with Martin fans. It just makes you come off like a stereotypical bully in an 80s movies.

I’m very biased (I don’t like martin myself) but I believe its perfectly fine to hate on a character, I think there’s plenty of ways to hate a character while understanding their depth and nuance, but I also agree that nobody should be attacking, harrasing, or messing with fans of the character either. Super uncool.

sorry to hijack your tags, but,

yeah everything said here, and also I think its okay in most cases to like ships in TMA because every canon (or canon leaning) ship usually has a lot of negative traits to them, I’d argue Jmart is mutually abusive, considering how Jon literally came from practically bullying martin as an ‘abusive boss’, Daisy and basira? I think its pretty clear the issues there, Tim and Sasha also had a normal dispute of them simply not communicating, there is no perfect relationship in TMA but its okay to write things about them being okay, however literally constantly being in fairytale land and excusing ANYONE’s actions in tma is so sucky/nm

and yeah, side tangent: if Jon was a woman, things would be way different (a lot would be worse in the fandom I think) and maybe, people would actually take what happened with him seriously? Rather than “haha this guy got kidnapped three times and is trapped in a world with a partner he never intended to be with” it would be “this is a story about a woman being constantly harrassed and targetted, stalked by her superior, assaulted and mocked (etc etc.” like maybe everything wouldn’t just be for jokes?? AND IM FINE WITH JOKES!! But it feels like nobody EVER takes anything seriously but the few, and the fanfic writers

i hate seeing people misinterpret my hate, no, I’m hating for the right reason not THAT reason

People always excuse a characters actions because they went through something bad. This is about TMA. Martin Blackwood did bad things, and I don’t like him, I think that’s a perfectly fine take.

If you knew someone in real life who dealt with trauma, would that excuse them paying it forward to you? Would it mean your allowed to dislike, or hate, them? Yes! Because they’ve wronged you, or someone else. You can very obviously sympathize, and hope they get better, but your under no obligation to LIKE them.

Martin blackwood went through many horrible things even from when he was a kid, does that excuse him being manipulative along with many other things? NO!!! Does that mean your not allowed to like him? ALSO NO!!! You like who you like, and someone hates who they hate.

This applies to Jon also, Jon was an abusive boss and a neglectful friend, he was also in a neglectful household and eventually, you know. That in no way excuses anything he did, can you hate Jon for that? Obviously! Can you also still like him? YES!!!

maphilwaffil:

We as the TMA fandom have so many amazing ship names like “DoorKeay” “Dyhard” “What The Girlfriends” and “Terminal Velocity” and we still use Jmart.. Which would be fine if “CloudyVision” “EyesTea” “Teaholding” and EVEN “LonelyEyes” if you were to give the old men the name “Eye Eye Captain” (seaweed is also an honourable mention) didn’t exist.

or even Lostsights, and Foggedglasses…theres infinitely better options

ceaseless-tosser:

i think the biggest ick(non-derogatory) i love about Jmart is their main misunderstanding of each other. Like Martin just never gets it through his skull that Jon sees no difference between himself and the ‘monsters’ and Jon just cannot grasp Martin’s strength and optimism as anything but naivete. So much of the hurtful shit they say and do to each other comes down to that dissonance.

Like no, Martin, Jon isn’t magically exempt from his participation in the apocalypse just because he was tricked into clearing the very last hurdle.

And no, Jon, Martin isn’t ignoring the magnitude of the apocalypse because he can’t comprehend it he just thinks that you and the rest of the world is worth fighting for, even if its all in vain.

Both of you would rather die than sustain yourself off of suffering, but are somehow shocked that the other wants to martyr themselves.

They are both massive hypocrites chained by their own vices and in the final moments of the series they demonstrate that they’ve learned nothing and i love them so much it makes me sick.

also can I maybe mention the fandom also can believe these same things, forgetting the fact that bolt narratives are faulty and you cannot trust them because they’re biased. you have like four subsections of the fandom, 1 believes Jon is horrible with no exemption and no difference between him and any others, 2 thinks Jon is fully exempt because he was a victim, 3 believes martin is stupid and naive and 4 believes martin only does what he does because he’d an evil yandere simp
