the number of people who are so absolutely convinced that the errorchivist is Jon… I mean… I would be genuinely surprised (in a bad way!) if Jonny brings back Jon or Martin in any meaningful way. Part of the impact (the really really good impact! on both an emotional and narrative level!) of their ending is that it’s extremely ambiguous, and extremely final, and bringing them back would, well, ruin that.
(also, while I am FASCINATED to find out what’s going on with Chester and Norris, I don’t think they’re Jon and Martin. I’ve already made a post about how the Web used Jon’s voice, specifically his voice, as part of its plan, and I think Fr3-d1 just straight up stole it somehow.)
I can imagine a scenario in which they can successfully bring Jon and Martin back, and personally I think it would still be meaningful, perhaps a little more common since most things have the main character live, but I think there are certainly good ways out there to bring them back, but I doubt they would. Considering most evidence points against it
Out of curiosity, how do you think they could bring Jon and Martin back? Because I genuinely cannot think of a way to do it that preserves the, like, the fundamental tragedy (which, to be clear, is the part I enjoy) of their ending
I think since you’re you, I don’t believe there would be a way to give them a second chance that’s as good as the first for you, but the one Idea I had as a non-writer, was that maybe they’d bring them back but very swiftly ‘kill’ them off again in a way that shows their destiny was already as it was supposed to be, like seeing your favourite characters come back only to watch them whisked away by the narrative again because they never had a chance. That’d be interesting to me, and wouldn’t interupt the plot for me, but I don’t personally know how to write it in or anything.
