I can’t even imagine how difficult it is for John to hold a conversation in s5. He’s being bombarded with all this information, witnessing what the world has become, no wonder it’s hard for him to pick out the things he shouldn’t say out loud and why it’s so hard for him to put his thoughts into words. Sometimes Martin will say something, like mentioning Angela, and they’re having a really important conversation, but suddenly he has all this information on where Angela is and what she’s up to and it’s no wonder he loses his train of thought. I wonder if there was a time in the beginning, right after the world ended, where he had so much trouble saying anything at all because he’s afraid everything in his head will just start pouring out.
i also feel like this could’ve been a huge point of contention between Martin and Jon had S5 been more about exploring dynamics, because it really highlights how different Jon and Martin are in certain aspects, and how each of them are ‘rejecting’ their Avatarhood. Martin is begging for knowledge for a lot of S5, interaction, clear answers he thinks only the Eye can give, and in doing so is mostly pushing away his Loneliness, searching. Jon doesn’t want to Force the burden of knowledge, all of the knowledge, on someone else. In that he pushes Martin away, though. I find it a little interesting.
