Literally anything couldve changed the trajectory of Tma, but I think the thing that fucks me up the most, is the fact that I’d argue a lot of the reason Jon even ends up in that precarious place between avatar and human (”how much of you is left”) is because after all that time nobody, not even martin treated him like a human. Jon tried his damnedest to help, and persevere, and he did what humans do to survive, make bad choices. And everyone invalidates that. His needs, like statements, are viewed of that like a dog needing to be taken on a walk. His acknowledgments on his capabilities are never about him, and only the powers, the things he can take and steal and do, and martin pushes him to use the powers and yet is so shocked when Jon is more horrified with himself than when he started.

Ok so ive never been a fan of martin, but I think I don’t like s5 Martin the most. Now I’m sure you could come up with plenty excuses, some more valid than others, but he honestly kind of sucked, like, personality wise.
Martin started most fights, and almost never tried to apologize for them, whereas Jon is genuinely, constantly apologetic. Martin pushed Jon to use his powers a lot during the beginning of the apocalypse. Martin blamed Jon—subtly or unsubtly—when his statements were unhelpful to their cause later on.
And maybe you’ll say, well, Jon was so rude to martin before… well then Martin didn’t need to date him, like I’d be way less peeved if they were just two unfortunate people surviving together, but they aren’t, Martin chooses to be like this despite likely knowing Jon the best
I’d argue if martin had been more genuinely supportive and not just surface level empathetic, Jon would’ve considered mag 200 more. And I’m likely wrong and bias, but still.
im really obsessed with Jonathan sims and I think he needs to suffer more and in fact I think more people need to think on how if you boiled Jon down, he’s not just a wet cat, he’s also a dog. He is fighting for scraps of things he needs and he is seen as intentionally uncooperative for being what he is and needing what he does by everyone during s3 - 4 and like an attack dog, its made pretty clear the only thing he’s good for isn’t being alive, its being useful, and without that basira or Melanie would’ve long since put him down
