Reaching for the Finish Line

COVID-19 showed a nasty hand and tossed our production staff into a hard second wave, just to show we shouldn’t promise any dates without books in hand. We had to change printers when our first choice couldn’t keep up with the backlog, but we found an amazing company a little closer to home that should get us the books promptly.

We’re posting promos now with the print production underway, and with a projected arrival time of about one to two weeks for books to arrive. As soon as the books arrive, we will begin shipping them out in order of purchase, but if you’d like to wait and see just how gorgeous they look in person, we will be posting up some photos of our test copy in the middle of promos. Our design editor, @jackcloverway, worked incredibly hard on this volume, and we’re so excited to show off all the details that are sure to make this a keepsake.

The final print volume will measure 6.75x10.25″, perfect bound, with a glossy wraparound softcover, and 72 soft-gloss interior pages. We had 28 contributors on this volume producing some top-notch art and some really excellent fiction, poetry, and statements. Proceeds from the zine will go toward The Internet Archives, to assist them in their long legal battle for the outcome of the National Emergency Library and the future existence of the Internet Archives. Physical copies will be limited to 50 pieces for the Standard Edition and 50 pieces for the Deluxe Edition. The Deluxe Edition will also come with 4 pinback buttons, 2 vinyl stickers, and an exclusive cover art variant poster signed by the artist.

Right now, you can receive the PDF copy as fast as emails travel through our bigcartel storefront (themagnuscollection), and if you have any questions about any of the specifications, finalizations, countries we can ship to, updates on the timeline, or anything else, feel free to message us on tumblr or twitter, or shoot us an email at magnuscollectionzine@gmail.com.

As we sprint toward the arrival of our print volumes, we still have a few remaining promos to excite your appetites. Today comes courtesy of AgentAndromeda.

AgentAndromeda is a newcomer to the Magnus Archives fandom, but has created quite a few fanworks. You may recognize her work on AO3 or her art on tumblr, or maybe you’ve seen her animatics on Youtube. She’s very excited to be part of this community and hopes this zine sparks joy for all of you! Go view more of her creations on tumblr @ceaselesslywatched,  a03 at AgentAndromeda, and twitter @andywatched.

And if you can’t wait for the print volumes, PDFs are available in our storefront Right Now! Head to themagnuscollection(.)bigcartel(.)com (removing the ellipses) and satisfy your yearnings!

Do you know when we can expect physical zines to ship?

The timeline we’ve been given from our new printer is 1-2 weeks, with the 2 weeks estimate if something goes wildly wrong with colouring, print registration, or shipping from one side of Canada to the other. This is a zine where everything that could be an impediment *was* an impediment, so I won’t whistle past the graveyard again.

We’ve paid for the books, we’ve gotten a proof PDF, I’ve requested an additional test copy sent our way, and we’ll cross our fingers that the books will find happy homes mid-April. Until they arrive, every physical order will be accompanied with a complimentary PDF so that you don’t have to wait to enjoy this beautiful volume. Everyone has worked so hard on it, and we’re excited to release it into the world.

The link has been live for three hours and we’ve already sold a little over 30% of the physical preorders. That’s amazing! Thank you for your drive and enthusiasm, and please be sure to spread the word! If you’ve already ordered a physical edition and you’ve received the PDF, feel free to comment with your impressions– you’ll make the contributors’ day!

Will you hold me when it’s over, will you make it all okay.

i… yeah.

reblogs very appreciated

@ival-eon keeps churning out the most amazingly gorgeous art, and we’re so fortunate to have a piece of it in our Magnus Collection zine. The lighting on this is phenomenal, and the patterns and textures have always reminded me of Gustav Klimt’s stunning pieces. Looking at this piece, you can see just how intimately this artist understands love and loss.

We have 12 Deluxe Editions left and 23 Standard Editions left of the print preorder. Until we have confirmation that we’re allowed to do another print run, we will still be selling PDFs, but if you’d like to get a physical copy, you should act quickly!

Thank you very much! I know how hard you guys have been at work for this, and I cannot wait for it to get here!

We have extremely limited copies remaining and we cannot guarantee we’ll be allowed a second print run, so if you haven’t ordered a physical copy and you want one, I’d definitely recommend putting in an order very soon! As soon as they arrive, we’ll have a photo-session to show off the most attractive attributes of this archival-quality volume, and I can’t wait to show it all off!

We have 9 Standard Editions left of the print preorder. We’ve requested permission to do a second print run, but we do not have confirmation on that yet. There are nine physical copies left to portion out. Who will be lucky enough to get there first?

Zine Celebrations

The print edition of The Magnus Collection Volume 1 has sold out. PDFs are still available for sale. We are presently speaking to a RQ representative to do a second, limited print run. If we did that, would you be interested in having it half-Deluxe, half-Standard again?

Hot on the tail of the announcement that we’ve sold out of our first pressing comes a promo for Kellan B’s masterful statement.

“My name is Kellan and I’m one of the writers for the Collection!  I’m so thrilled to have been included and get to work alongside such talented creators.  The Magnus Archives and the other shows by Rusty Quill have been a huge inspiration in both my life and my own creative work.  I would like to say thank you for everyone that has supported me and my writing (even if they have no idea what this Magnus Archives thing is that has taken over my life), and I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to release my own novels soon.” Check out their work on AO3 at buzzbuzz34 and tumblr @kellanswritingblog.
