Here’s a trend I noticed with Jonathan Sims.

Jon thinks very carefully before he speaks. Trying to explain what he wants or what he is going through or what he Knows/knows is always a slow and meticulous process. It always takes him a moment after someone asks him a question to get to the response. He searched for accurate wording thoughtfully and when finally answering, his explanations are pretty clear and comprehensible for the most part. When forced to answer quickly is when things become unclear and frustratingly vague.

But the people he deals with are some of the most impatient people I’ve heard in my life (and yes this includes Martin up to a certain point in the apocalypse when he actually understands Jon’s thought process).

Seriously! I’ve been relistening to some interactions between him and Tim, Melanie, Georgie, Basira and when they ask him a question and he, heavens forbid, takes a moment which is obviously to consider how to best word his response, they beat him to the punch by impatiently nagging him to get on with it, to be more clear, to start talking already.

It really feels like there is a double standard with responses from Jon. On one hand people expect him to explain himself clearly but then on the other hand also want it done quickly and in their pace. And for Jon it just. Doesn’t work like that. You want a fast answer? It’ll be vague and need elaboration. You want a comprehensive explanation? Let him take his time, goodness.

Reason #47385848 why the neurodivergents have latched onto this man.

#I still stand by my stance that perhaps the only people to interact with this man 100% sans ire or impatience or overtly malicious intent #were Sasha Gerry and Oliver #everyone else (Martin included) all have moments where they jump down Jon’s throat for just–what? Explaining things? #Being ‘too ominous’ when trying to describe THE LITERAL HELLSCAPE around them? #it’s a trait of the show I’ve never understood #because while he does have a a few theatric mannerisms Jon really doesn’t speak that differently compared to the others #but because of the things he’s forced (often literally) to talk about he gets branded as being weird about it #ugh via @apocalypsokane

All of this is so accurate! Also they often seem to forget that a lot of the time Jon is trying to verbalize things that are not meant to be verbalized or have never been described before which is…not easy. There’s also a curious disregard for Jon’s emotional state from others. They’re very keen to lecture him about how things affect them and what he should do to see to their emotional needs but they rarely seem to want to know what they can do to see to his needs or to even think about it. Often they seem actively disinterested  in Jon’s wants or opinions.

guys Sasha is not the responsible one in the archives. She saw a weird guy with fucked up hands and an uncanny laugh and immediately followed him to several secondary locations. I’m SO sorry to say this but the only og archives crew member with self-preservation instincts is Tim

vastpotato:

I love all the avatars who are like “the Eye is silly and I’m not afraid of it or it’s power” and then immediately go “but you’re a silly little man and just for that, I’m gonna tell you my entire life story.”

This is probably going to flop 🧍🏻‍♀️🫶🤭😙🫴❤️

[VD: A grayscale Magnus Archives animatic of Jon and Gerry talking in episode 111 of The Magnus Archives. Gerry, a ghostly goth, and Jon, a thin brown man in a graphic T-shirt, sit together at a table. Gerry says scornfully, “Playing politics with things they didn’t understand. Reckoned her tradition was less the academic and more the, uh…” Jon offers dryly, “V-Village witch?”

Gerry laughs, pleased, and asks, “You sure you don’t know her?” He sighs, sobers, and says, “Yeah. But deep down what she wanted wasn’t all that different from the ivory tower idiots she hated. Y’know, I think, secretly, she dreamed of starting a little mystic dynasty of her own.” He grimaces. “With me.”

Jon says a little eagerly, “Like the, the Lukases? Or the Fairchilds?” Gerry corrects, “Well, Fairchild’s just a name, they’re not really family.” Then he does a finger gun and says, “The Lukases, though, yeah.”

He turns away, pensive and frowning, and says, “Thing is, it’s harder than it looks. What’s out there… doesn’t care about blood.” Jon, grinning a little, says, “Well, I-I mean, except for the vampires…” Gerry scowls, “Yeah, obviously except for the vampires.” Jon looks abashed, and Gerry looks down sorrowfully to say, “But they care about your choices, your fears, not your parents.” End VD]

Thinking about TMA again and how funny it is that being touched by all the entities was just a natural and extremely simple consequence of Jon up and deciding to throw himself down a metaphorical cliffside and smashing into a different avatar on every jagged rock on the way down.

And yet Elias needed to strike a very complex very 4-D chess kind of deal with Peter Lukas to very specifically manufacture a scenario to get Jon touched by The Lonely because, as I imagine it, a Lonely avatar in its natural habitat would never ever willingly get within render distance of Jonathan “It is my goal to bother literally everyone I meet” Archivist.

[Image description: The Magnus Archives transcript screenshots interspersed with grayscale screenshots of Abigail Hobbs from NBC Hannibal. The first and last images of Abigail are tinted red.

My father was a murderer. There’s no way I can reasonably deny it at this point; the evidence provided by the police was overwhelming, and I saw his shed myself.

A distressed Abigail holds a clump of human hair.

A man’s voice asked to speak with my father. It was a breathy voice, like that of an old man, and at the time I decided he had a German accent, though, when I was young, a lot of different nationalities and accents were lumped together in my mind under the label “German”.

Abigail answers the phone.

room got very dark. My father told me everything was fine

Garret Jacob Hobbs holds a knife to Abigail’s throat.

His hands shook slightly and I didn’t believe him, but I did what I was told anyway. I don’t know how long I lay there,

Abigail bleeds on the floor.

He whispered to me then, when he thought I was asleep, promised to protect me, to make sure that “it wouldn’t get me too”.

Abigail tells Will, Hannibal, and Alana: “he told me he killed those girls so he wouldn’t have to kill me.”

The one question they kept asking me over and over during the investigation into my father was whether I knew where the rest of the bodies were.

Abigail says, “No parts went to waste.”

I didn’t want to leave the house. I just sat in the living room, silent and still.

Abigail hugs a pillow.

Even now, after all that’s happened, and all I know about what went on there, I can’t bring myself to leave.

Abigail stares.

Based off of a personal experience I had earlier last week. Sometimes I forget Christian holidays exist despite them being treated as the most important thing ever by the majority here. And I think Jon would do the same thing (I’m projecting).

[ID: A Magnus Archives comic featuring Timothy Stoker, Sasha James, and Jonathan Sims.

Tim is a light brown skinned, Puerto Rican man with bleached bangs, short brown hair and a mustache. He’s wearing a light blue Hawaiian shirt with sharks on it that are each wearing a red Santa hat that matches the one on his own head. He’s also wearing a green boa with bells around his neck.

Sasha is an black British woman with dreadlocks that are all bleached at the ends and yellow glasses. She’s wearing antlers on her head, and a white and red knit sweater.

Jon is a brown man with short black and grey hair and rectangular glasses and a mustache. He’s wearing a two piece navy blue suit, over a white shirt and black tie. He’s holding a brown satchel.

Panel one) Tim and Sasha are waving goodbye to Jon as they leave. Tim says “‘night, Jon. Happy holidays!” Sasha says “Don’t stay too late. And have a happy holiday!” Jon, off to the side is in the middle of equipping his satchel.

Panel two) A close up of Jon and he finishes putting the satchels strap over his shoulder. He watches his colleagues leave off screen. There is a visual sound effect of the door closing.

Panel three) Jon let’s go of his satchel and thinks to himself with a slightly confused and awkward ecpression, “Wait… What holiday is it this time?”

the other thing about elias is that he is like a tumblrina to me essentially. like he saw a wet mean little man he liked and he said oh he’s perfect i’m going to put him in a jar and shake him around i’m going to put him in so many hideous situations. like any time you want to put a man in the microwave it was then that elias bouchard carried you. but unlike tumblr bloggers he managed to leverage this for career advancement slash becoming king of the fucking world which no one here has ever accomplished. you know they say if you do what you love you never work a day in your life.
