2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project.
bluebeard is divided into three sections. so far, it’s been mostly set up. it’s bored me, how much I’ve had to work through, and I’m looking forward to the complexly traumatic romance that I’ll finally be able to write. some of which will be in the next instalment. & also, to begin to weave together the tapestry of plot threads into a strangling web. the bloody chamber awaits.
how the podcast timeline in this alternate universe would play out haunted me for long enough that i have half an epilogue written. there’s a scene within it involving [REDACTED] and the terrible knowledge that you cannot save someone that has its teeth into my skull.
3. Share a sentence or paragraph from your writing that you’re really proud of (explain why, if you like.)
you keep calling me jon / you keep letting me.
not fair, but encapsulates their dynamic in a myriad amount of ways. jon as annoyed and discomforted by the ease of both their conversation and their intimacy, making a token protest to reassure himself that he’s at least tried; elias avoiding accusations and subtly seeing which boundaries he can erode. and they do continue to fall.
10. How would you describe your writing process?
haunted by ecstatic visions.
one: i have a dream / a thought / an image
two: it bores into me until i write it
three: constant redrafting
music is viscerally important, and i’ll write songs for non-fanfiction projects. if a scene calcifies, i will (1) pace up and down monologuing about it (b) imagine it happening and note what is integral to the atmosphere (3) begin from a completely different place / have the character do the opposite to what they’re currently doing. the proposal scene in the third chapter went through all three of these.
a more consistent writing process would help, i think. neurodivergency and writing can be difficult. but this is only what i’ve gathered over a year and a half of writing; time and experience will whittle my process into something hopefully more able to be harnessed.
