For the prompt “favorite ship” for @tmaappreciationweek , it’s Jon and Martin! I started listening in I think January of 2020, and this show and these two got me through the entire pandemic and finishing my degree, and it has truly supported me. I know that’s mushy, but it’s true. And I will always love and appreciate it.
Day 5 for @tmaappreciationweek and I went with “What If” Daisy didn’t Kill Mike for this one, specifically going back to a comment I made on one of the updates for Not Quite Somewhere Else where I said I think Jon would have killed Mike during his short avatar murder spree in Season 5 considering he killed Jared for something he asked Jared to do I don’t think it’s unlikely Jon would have forgotten about the time Mike threw him thousands of feet into the air.
I think Mike’s domain would have been filled with pylons cause I like Pylons and it fits his vibe to me.
Oh boy happy tma ending day! I got a lot of art ready to post today and I’m going to start with this one. Song lyric thing with the living tombstone this time
The shark was sitting in his desk chair when Jon opened his office door. Actually sitting in it, with a “hello my name is” sticker stuck to it with “Jonathan Swims, Head Sharkivist” written on it in black marker. At first, Jon was annoyed, he had no idea where to put the shark as his office was already too crowded with filing cabinets and boxes of miscellaneous statements. Then a small, petty voice inside him whispered that he should just… go along with whatever scheme that the others had hatched. So Jon turned around and walked out of his office, sat down at one of the unoccupied desks, and pulled out a book from his bag.
There was a collective muttering from his assistants and Jon did his best to hide his smile. Tim was the first to speak up, his expression cheerful but there was a definite glint to his eyes. “What’re you doing out here, boss?”
Jon continued to read for a few seconds- for dramatic effect of course- before glancing up at Tim. “Oh, sorry. Were you talking to me?”
“Yeah,” to Jon’s delight the assistants seemed confused. “Why aren’t you in your office?”
“It would appear,” it was getting harder to keep from smiling. “I’ve been demoted. Someone else was in my office, and he seems to be doing a rather good job, so…” With a shrug, Jon returned to the book. “I guess I’ll wait to see what he wants me to do.”
Lyrics are from the song “Only Happy When it Rains,” by the band Garbage.
Image ID: A digital sketch of Martin Blackwood from The Magnus Archives, shown in profile view against a streaky grey background. Martin is a fat, white man with shaggy red hair and glasses. He is wearing tan trousers and a blue jumper, and holding a green thermos. Martin stands with his head tilted upwards. Superimposed over him are the words “pour your misery down, pour your misery down on me,” written vertically in blue text to resemble rain. End ID.

Despite himself, Martin grins a bit at the look on Jon’s face, but he remembers the point he’s trying to make and sobers quickly. “Face it, Jon, it took almost two years of crisis and trauma to even make us compatible. And that sucks. But here we are.” His gaze drops to his hands as he says quietly, “And I don’t want it to be for nothing. I won’t let it.”
There’s a pause, then Jon says, “That’s very sweet of you, Martin.” A short pause, then he amends, “Sort of.”
Martin snorts.
“But I don’t agree,” Jon continues. Martin starts to protest, but Jon waves his hand. “Yes, yes, I know, I heard you—two years of trauma, and Angela. I’m not saying we would’ve just…fallen together had nothing changed.”

Happy tma anniversary! This is actually one of the very first fics I started for tma a year ago, and I decided to finish it up for @tmaappreciationweek. I’m sharing it for Day 5: What If?
I’m rearranging my prompts a little bit here, because today is the actual one-year anniversary since the podcast ended (wild!) and I wanted to get this fic out today in dedication to that. Please enjoy!

It is 3 o’clock in the morning, Somewhere Else, and Martin can hear Jon pacing in the kitchen.

Jon had nothing when he woke up from a coma - which is alright, because he’s much too busy to need things. There is one sticking point, however, that grows more irritating the longer he ignores it. That is how Jonathan Sims ends up crying to an early 2010s pop song in a Tesco Express at three in the morning.

For Day 5 of TMA appreciation week - Season 4! Exploring my poor boy and his attempts to get a little bit of comfort.
Happy stabby one year anniversary! But now it’s time for a different stabby for Day 5 of @tmaappreciationweek : What if? from Season Four! What if Martin stabbed Jonah’s body in MAG 158 and took his place in the Panopticon? We know from MAG 200 that Jon became part of it after he took Jonah’s place, so I think it would probably not have been too kind on Martin either.

For Day 6 of @tmaappreciationweek I went with the prompt Friendships!
Mainly cause I want the Season 4 Archive crew to have one good day when they’re all getting along, having a good time, and just being friends with each other. None of that lonely, everyone bullying Jon stuff. Just good vibes.

written for @tmaappreciationweek for the prompt ‘somewhere else’! a continuation of it will be this, always but can be read as a standalone. CW for mentions of Jon’s past traumas (including non-consensual touching, canon-typical worms, canon-typical flesh content, knife violence, spiders, and claustrophobia), wound/injury analogies, and fear of abandonment.
.
Jon is tired. It drags at his eyelids, blurs his vision, makes his hands shake ever so slightly where they turn another page in his book. His wedding ring glints very faintly in the light from the lamp. He used to read without the light, squinting at the moonlit pages and holding the book so close to his face that his nose nearly brushed the paper. But Martin is a heavy sleeper—the kind who needs to set twenty alarms five minutes apart in the mornings to get up and who sleeps deep into the afternoon when given the chance—and he’d given Jon a look as he passed him the paracetamol for his eye strain headache and told him to just use the lamp.
“They say lying down with your eyes closed can be restful, even if you don’t sleep,” Martin said a moment after, in that pointed way he does when he wants Jon to learn to take care of himself but doesn’t want to outright say it.
“I know,” Jon said. He did not say that, if he lay down and closed his eyes, he likely wouldn’t have much trouble falling asleep at all.
He just wouldn’t … stay asleep. Best to avoid that inevitability as long as possible, he’s decided.
For Day 7 of @tmaappreciationweek I went with the Prompt Somewhere Else just to shamelessly show off my Post!Magnus Archives/ Infinity Train comic, and also to announce that I have started posting it on tapas! I will be keeping each part 10 pages or less, so I can continue posting the whole thing on tumblr and Instagram like before, but now navigation should be easier for new readers! The tapas link is right here!
Thank you so much for this event, mystery moderator of @tmaappreciationweek It was a lot of fun to work on stuff for each day of the week and to see everyone else’s works!
For those who wish to get something off of their chest it’s suggested that they write to the Listener. All they have to do is write a letter on paper, fold it into something that can fly- a bird, a butterfly, even a paper airplane- and leave it out overnight. The letter is said to fly to the Listener, who will visit the writer’s dreams and offer comfort.
A Somewhere Else AU where Jon becomes a deity that listens to people who just need someone to talk to without being judged.
Aaaand the last one, Day 7 of @tmaappreciationweek : Season Five, specifically Last Words. I had this idea for my art of the finale a while already and I wanted to learn a bit about drawing hands.

This shocks Jon, and the noise he makes must indicate that, for Tim looks up with a wry grin.

Looking at the page, it is hard not to wonder what part of the skin it is. Jon thinks if he were to skin someone… well, the skin from the back would make more sense. Or the torso. There is nothing here to guide him: no nipple, no pleats that would indicate a belly button, no bumps where bones might have stretched the fabric once. Just, a smooth dead texture, and ink.
Quick sketch for Day 7 of@tmaappreciationweek : Favourite avatar. This one was tough, but Jane Prentiss has to be one of my favourites. She has a special place in my heart since she was the first avatar revealed. I remember holding my breath during her statement and the fact she picks at her skin is pretty relatable what?
TMA Appreciaton Week II is a prompt week to celebrate the Magnus Archives, the people behind it, and the fandom memories that have been created. This event will run August 6th to August 12th and feature fanworks for your favorite characters, scenes, ships, and more. Each day five different prompts will be provided for inspiration but don’t feel like you have to stick to them. If you have an idea you want to use, feel free to use it.
It has been pointed out I messed up the dates/days of the week, please go by the date itself for the prompt instead of the weekday. This event will run from Sunday, August 6th to Saturday, August 12th.
